I don't "support" either side. I think it's time to move on instead of costing taxpayers more money that we don't have.Where does it end?

It could be Ms Murphy or any female I really do not think it matters. The Sheriff's supporters will stand by him no matter what. From what I understand Ms Murphy was an exemplery detective and had a flawless record. The fact that the Justice Department conducted their own investigation and sustained all of her allegations speaks volumes. If I were a betting person, I would say that the Sheriff will say he delegated the investigation to a subordinate and that is who he is going to blame. I could be wrong but like the old say goes.......the buck stop with him. The boss is ultimately responsible for his employees actions. Also from my looking at all of the paperwork in this case......I would say that there will be a lot of current and former employees that will be telling a tale that will not be favorable to Mr Hofmann. As a lot of us are saying, this is going to be interesting to watch. So from what you have read on the internet has led you to the absolute conclusion that she is perfect, he's a turd, and everyone else is in a conspiracy to cover up for him. Does that about wrap it up?

As far as my information, I paid and. downloaded the actual Federal Case (all 35 pages) from the Federal courts PACER System. That along with reading the other direct links which have been posted kindly enough by Channel 2. I feel that this case is important enough to look at the actual Federal case. Without actually paying to get a copy of the Federal filing which I feel confident you have not done Falger, I would say you are standing by what you as a supporter of Mr Hofmann is telling you. I think THAT about sums it up. I am a citizen who wants to find out as many FACTS as I can. I actually want those facts to shape my opinion, not enuendos or opinions.

What is it with the hostility and bashing toward the victim, Kristy Murphy? Do some people know more then what's being presented in the news about this case. You have anonymity here on the forum...so, what's the real scoop other then the assumptions people are saying. For starters, go to the Maryland court case system and search her name. See how many different men she has sued or attempted to get a peace order or restraining order against. Including her own brother.

You're correct, I did not pay to get a copy. <picture a blind squirrel comment here> In your mind do you imagine either Mr. Hofmann has talked to me personally? Hasn't happened. Not second hand either. Not by writing or by proxy or be intermediary either. They and I have no communication at all. In fact, the only statements I have that are attributable to either Mr. Hofmann are the statements recorded in the filings that I have read (68 pages if we're comparing sizes). Supporter of Mr. Hofmann? Which one? I suppose in this particular case I'm leaning that way, but it has nothing to do with them personally. And, I don't know Ms. Murphy-Taylor so it isn't true that I dislike her personally. I simply look at the facts (lower case version, the ones that actually happened, not the ones the plaintiff and the lawyers want you to believe) and I try to get beyond the hype. I don't believe that all officers are criminal, I don't believe all men are pigs, and I don't believe that all women are innocent victims who would never stretch the truth or lie for a $4.5M $10.5M payout. Getting those stereotypes out of the way, I'm looking at what is left and I don't like what I see.

Eileen....there is more than one Kristy Muphy. Perhaps you can post the link to each case you are referring to. When I looked all I see are cases related to all of the criminals she arrested and her case with the sheriffs brother. I will say one thing, if you go by the amount of people she arrested according to that website, she sure arrested a lot of criminals!

No, not talking about cases she was involved in when a deputy. Take a closer look, it's the same person filing the cases I spoke of earlier.

I don't know I don't see it. And the more I think of it, I don't think that matters at all. What matters is that the sheriif's brother admitted his guilt in this case. Let's just wait and see I guess.

I really don't know to much about if the victim is "sue happy". However when someone gives them the ammunition to sue and it is backed up with a criminal investigation that results in criminal charges and then a guilty plea in a court, then they have a law suite that will be entertained. Again there will be some that chose to have a one track mind and have their minds made up in this case. And then there will be others that look at the big picture! Regardless of opinions in this case, this is a case that we all just have to stay tuned and see how it plays out!

I hope that it turns out well for the Sheriff, but if the Feds are digging for dirt then they will find it. He is a republican Sheriff in a democrats state.

I really don't think that the state being majority democrat matters. This isn't going to a state court. This is a Federal Civil Rights Violation Case that will be heard in Federal Court. When this case got elevated to Federal, it took on a whole new level of seriousness.

After re-reading through all of this, I still find myself not caring one bit about this case. I am particularly appalled that the Feds feel the need to get involved, again it's too much government looking for something to do.
Civil rights cases to me based on recent history = someone looking for a payout. Pure and simple. They are usually filed against some sort of government agency since the lawyers know they have unlimited funds and can print their own money. There goes our tax dollars and regardless of how you feel about this case, we are paying for it.

The Federal Government starts getting smaller on Friday.
...and in the local news. The QAC Board of Education is requesting an increase of $6.3 million more for the 2014 fiscal year then was given in 2013. What, is the recession fully over and we're flush with funds. Next the Sheriff will request more, Public Works will request more...Yeah, they probably won't get all they request, but I bet they will get some.
Where's the county memo to all departments stating there will be no budget increases, make do with what you got...period.

Ha! The Commissioners memo I read said "Oh My! Lookie here! All this new money from our tax increases!!! Lets go dig up old capital projects to spend it on, and spend some here, and some more over there, we are flush with CASH now that we jacked everybody up to the highest local income tax rate allowed by law" Way to go 100% republican commission.

Seriously? This is what you get out of this thread? Finger pointing and blame? You should run for congress, or better yet, you could be president!

No Frank, this is not what I got from this thread, this is in response to MJs last statement in this thread on other local news.... I didnt know we werent allowed to go offtopic here. Finger pointing and blame, maybe? Did a 100% republican county commission do it or not? Okay I guess I am guilty of fingerpointing, they did it. Blame them, not me.
From this thread, I got that our Sheriff protected his groping, touchy, feely brother and he shouldnt have. And it is liable to cost us all dearly.

Didn't blaming and finger pointing start before lainey's post? Yes, but this thread is not about our president. Throughout history, there have always been women who play the victim, men that play the victim, and men and women that abuse each other. I hope the authorities can do an unbiased investigation and bring guilty parties to justice.

Results as of now on this topic: *Departmental/Internal Charges: Subsequently no longer employed by the county, don't know if it was resigned or terminated. *Criminal Charges: Plead guilty, subsequently received sentence. *Maryland Police Training Commission Hearing Board: Lost police powers issued and governed by the State of Maryland. *Civil Lawsuit: Pending - Stay tuned! This would be a fun Jury to be on! I am not a betting man but the chips are not in the County's favor at this time, but I could be wrong!

I am not an entrepreneur or business owner, however I am sure in the private sector these unethical and criminal actions would not have been tolerated and the guilty party would have been out of a job immediately! I am sure in this current situation, if he wasn't the brother of the boss he would have been out of a job immediately also!
