How many Snow Plows do we have in Queen Annes County? I have never lived in a place that takes four days to make it through neighborhoods and when they do, they don't regularly salt or treat the roads. Nothing like waiting for Mother Nature to clean the roads....where have all my tax dollars gone?

They must have just burned it to keep warm. Go back to the other threads and read the stuff I posted.
Perhaps the county should spend a few million, buy several more dump trucks, maintain them for the next few years, hire staffing for them just in case it snows.
But now that you've decided that snow removal for the once every 3 year snow storm is so important what budget do you cut to pay for these new trucks and personnel? Or maybe just raise taxes.

Plows, the crews to run them and salt cost money.

Guess you have already forgotten about the HUGE tax increase they dropped in our laps two years ago. A lot of good that has done us. The problem in this county is NOT that we are undertaxed....

Guess you forgot about the HUGE drop in assessed property values resulting in lower income to the County. Unfortunately the County's bills didn't drop accordingly.

For all of you saying the County has no choice but to raise taxes, please take a 10 minute drive down Rt 50 to Talbot County where they somehow manage with an income tax 25% lower than Queen Anne's and a property tax 40% lower than our county. Folks, the County is not in the condition it is because we don't pay enough taxes. We pay the highest income tax allowed by law currently and at the time our wonderful Commissioners enacted it only the most liberal big Government counties had that same rate (Balt, PG, Mont, Howard) and our property tax rate is in the middle of the pack.
The problem in this county is, and has been for a long long time, that they are completely anti-business and our NIMBY voters around here have scared off each and every attempt to bring business to this county. Due to this we are simply a bedroom community and all of the tax burden falls on us. In Talbot, the strong business climate has allowed that burden to be split between individuals and businesses.
And to the comment that schools should NEVER receive a cut - no offense but that is an idiotic comment. They have to run efficiently like everywhere else. If there is waste in the system they should definitely receive a cut. Dollars in do not equate to dollars out, particularly when a huge bureaucracy like the school system is involved.

Every single county department/office is overwhelmed with top heavy administrations and fat salaries up top. Board of Education is no exception. And they keep expanding from the top! Heck, Dept of Emergency Services just re-organized to add more bosses up top. Riding desks doesn't save lives likes boots on the ground just like our BOE curriculum specialist who don't teach kids. Meanwhile, we are buying land to build new county offices and we are donating land to the Talbot YMCA and 4 million dollars as well. Do you know why there are so many folks running for Registrar of Wills? It pays in excess of 100k per year! We don't need all that in this little county. Our registrar of wills doesn't need to be a lawyer like in Baltimore City. Im telling you folks, quit looking at the little D or R behind a candidates name and look at the candidate. The 5 commissioners we have are all Rs. And they did this to our tax rate. They voted to give it to the YMCA. They are growing huge top heavy administrations.

I remember years ago when the letter would appear in the Bay Times from a new chicken necker complaining about the lack of sidewalks and streetlights, there would always be a rebuttal in the next paper suggesting the whiner move back to Columbia! IMHO killing the Homeland training center was one of the dumbest things the chicken little of this county ever did. :/

8 million donation to the YMCA just makes me sick when I will never use it. How about instead of giving it to the YMCA, use that money towards not having the kids pay for sports.
