Below is an overview from our 3rd meeting with the current county commissioners and Parks and Rec Advisory Board (PRAB) on Tuesday, July 8th in Centreville, MD regarding the Beach Permits.
Terrapin Matapeake Ferry Point Beach Initiative Cost
1.) Six Part-time Long Term Contractual Seasonal Employee (Ranger)
- Working from April 1st until November 1st limited to 1300 hours at $13.00 per
hour ($16,900 per Ranger, total $101,400 a year)
.
- Each site will be assigned two Rangers one will work 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
and the second shift will start at 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
- Duties will include unlocking and locking gates, pick up liter on the
beach and surrounding ground, patrol beach, write citations as needed
and help with maintenance of the park
.
- For the Rangers at Terrapin Beach a four wheeler will be provided to
assist with patrols and cleanup due to the vast size of the facility so
training will be needed
.
- We will need resolution signed for all Rangers to write citations and
training by the Sheriffs Office to make sure we are in compliance with
regulations. This will be free of charge
.
2.) Trash Removal from Wells Cove Kent Narrows Matapeake Terrapin Beach
- Summer season (26 weekends) of overtime for Parks/DPW employees to
work 6-8 hours a weekend ($6,000 for the season).
3.) Sheriffs Office Patrols
Summer season (26 weekends) of sheriff's office patrols of Terrapin
Beach, Matapeake Beach, Matapeake Landing Pier, Romancoke Pier and
Ferry Point for a seasonal cost of $16,867.76
Total Cost of the Beach Trash Initiative: $124,267.76 a year
Parks and Recs Goal is to have the Beach Permit Program fees and citation fees ultimately make this
initiative self supporting like the Public Landing Permits.
