I first met Lana some 25 years ago... then I moved away. I was lucky to find her back in our lives when our paths crossed again and we both had moved to Kent Island and Ricky started playing sports with her boys.
Lana is a sweet lady with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. She obviously can't work right now and the financial burden of her not working along with the ridiculous costs of medical treatment have put a huge strain on the family's resources. Please read the GoFundMe page for more details.
I messaged Lana before posting this and she said how humbling the experience has been... I can only imagine. I'm so sorry my friend that you are going through all of this. Although it is extremely hard to do, letting others know you need help and asking for others to spread the word- is really the way to go. Like the saying "many hands make light work"... I know from personal experience from doing fundraising for so many years on Kent Island what a generous community it is with helping the schools, fire departments, and families. I'm hoping that both friends and strangers can help Lana and her family.
Also, how anyone can be turned down for disability when they have Stage 3 Cancer? This is is absolutely beyond me. If anyone has any special knowledge of how this works or can provide Pro-Bono Attorney assistance to her to help her get this disability that would be wonderful. Also, I know plenty of businesses have done fundraising nights to help people in Lana's situation... any businesses able to help? Also, are any of you homeowners of vacant properties (or know of a place) that can rent out your home to Lana's family (they are looking for a less expensive place)? Or can anyone offer them temporary housing at a low price? My home on Kent Island has long term tenants in it.
If I was still living on Kent Island I would hold a fundraising event for her, but unfortunately living in England now makes this not possible. So, I'm going to make a donation, share her GoFundMe page, spread the word and ask others to help as they are able, and pray. We are going to pray a lot for her. Lana, we know you can get through this and we love you... Chris
