I don't understand what the cross-island trail has to do with your perception that there is too much growth in QAC. It is not the same thing as a new road.

I think it could be comparable to a road if it went across your front yard. I think they were getting more to the point that IT'S coming no matter what. No, it's not in my front yard.

to Guest Bchevy understood my post. Growth is coming whether the residents want it or not! Besides do you have any idea what the B&A trail has done for Anne Arundel County? (ex. Robberies, Rapes and assaults) Look into it and you may be surprised that this is what comes with growth.

The Island of Kent as a whole is not big enough to become a Glen Burnie. Please stop. And by the way, the thugs who do all of these robberies and rapes on the B&A Trail are mostly from Baltimore. Those thugs come in via the Light Rail. With us not having a Light Rail and the fact they can't swim and most don't have cars or jobs, I think we are safe.

C'mon GBM don't you get it? You don't have to BIG to get that way, just POPULATED and OVERGROWN.
And yeah, most of the thugs on the light rail are from Baltimore, MOST of the light rail is located there. most of the recent criminals in the news live within blocks of the light rail station. A girl killed for her Wendy's sandwich.....
Ties to the B&A trail and the light rail? Hadn't heaqrd much on that one. Ties between the light rail and crime rates around the Light rail stations? oh yeah!

No, it's not in my front yard.[/quote] A trail is more like a sidewalk and what is wrong with that?
By saying that growth is inevitable you are falling right into the growth machine's trap. There are ways to slow growth, if that is what the majority wants.

A trail is more like a sidewalk and what is wrong with that? There were a lot of answers to that when the South trail was being pushed through. But that discussion belongs in another thread. I believe the point of the trail comment was that when TPTB get the idea that something is going to be done it gets done, somtimes regardless of what the community wants. "growth is inevitable " = "growth will happen" "slow growth" = "growth will happen" Therefore: "slow growth" is consistent with "growth is inevitable," not a contradiction. In other words, no one said growth has to be fast, just that it is going to happen. Fast or slow (hopefully slow), there's no way to stop it from happening.

Lots of us DID want the trail.
We need to continue to keep holding our Commissioners responsible for growth not only on K.I. but also in the rest of the county. Look what happened to the three commissioners who voted for every proposed development. The residents voted Cupani, Smith and Cassell out! We do have the power to control our own development destiny. While I agree that growth is inevitable, we need to be smart about it. Make sure infrastructure (roads, sewer, schools etc.) is in place FIRST.

ljp:
You can't combine the population stats for Chester and Stevensville to find the population per square mile for the Island, you have to average them. Would be about 528.65 people per square mile for Kent Island.
And which neighborhood do you think has 700 new residents since 2000? I can't think of a single one on the Island that would generate those kind of numbers. Do enlighten me.

chn..., If you're going to be so precise as to the the hundredth of a person, you ought to check your math. The combined numbers should be weighted when averaged. Want to try again?
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Cloverfields hadn't grown by as much in 6 years; or Claiborne Woods?

actually I wasn't being that direct, 700 was a typo sorry for the uproar I meant to say 300. But there are 3 new developments in Grasonville and although we consider ourselves part of 'the island' we are not technically ON the island. One has about 300 people in it. The 2nd has about 100 and the 3rd if I could make an educated guess (and I do mean guess as I have not physically gone door to door and counted in any of these 3) I would guess it has about 600. These are new developments since the last census. Then there is the other development down 50 past the outlets who since they traffic to the Kent Island area for shopping etc. I could add them to our list. My point was that I just wondered how many more people are here since that last census since we had an uprise in new homes built and more and more homes bought here from West shore buyers. and yes I do recognize that the stats given did not include Grasonville. This high jump in new residents might contribute to the congestion that we have all complaining about .
(and I thought I was a little Type A)

Typo or not, I wouldn't be surprised is Bay City AND Cloverfields have grown by that much, There's hardly a vacant lot in either community. I'm sure that combined they hay have grown that much
