a Michael's or Total Crafts type of store on KI. We have no place to buy craft or sewing supplies. If there is such a place and I've missed it, please let me know. I'd also LOVE to get a Target over here. The KMart is better since the renovation/update, but it's still not as nice as Target.

Things I'd like to see:
MOVIE THEATER
Bowling alley?
Ice Skating rink?
We need things to DO here!
Less gas stations, Less Condos, Less Stores,

Yes! A movie theatre and bowling alley would be great! All we have is stores and bars. Nothing to do but get smashed!

Surely we don't have enough boat sales centers, or liquor stores. I passed a corner the other day that had neither. Clearly that is unacceptable.

Is there any specific reason that there isn't a movie theatre on Kent Island? If not on KI, Grasonville, Queenstown, or any other surrounding area? It just seems like it would make a killing - even a twin or single movie theatre.

How would we campaign to get one? Who would we contact? It would be nice to have something to do on the island besides hanging out in a bar.
What about bowling? It would be nice to have a Jillian's/Dave & Busters type place.

I really would prefer something that teens can do right alongside adults. A movie theatre and bowling alley would be great for just that reason. Why not put a twin in the old outlets (Club 1 Shopping Center)? It's mostly vacant anyway.

I'm not sure the ceilings are high enough there for a movie theater.

Here's a twist on the subject: ;D
I'd like to see:
Drivers learn how to use the traffic circle near Castle Marina.
The All-You-Can-Eat chinese buffet back at Friendlys!
The traffic lights fixed at the rte 8 overpass to get the priority of the left turn lights, they seem to be stuck.
People from Eastbound rte 50 coming off the bay bridge, going to Thompson Creek/K Mart etc., Use the NEXT exit on 50 to get there so they don't have to STOP on the exit ramp to try to cross 2 solid white lines so they can cross 2 lanes of traffic....
People to PARK their cars at the Stevensville post office instead of parking on the RED curb to "run in"....
Here's one, IF you're waiting in a long line at your favorite fast food restaurant, figure out what you want to order BEFORE you get to the counter. All of us behind you in line appreciate it! Besides that, the menu hasn't changed!
I'd like to see the DUMP TICKET SYSTEM Abolished, it's a joke, different locations read the rules differently, ("big loads" trailers, couches, refrigerators for 10 tickets? c'mon!) and how about this- make the dump workers do their job 1st, and pick through the trash 2nd.? Most of them seem more worried about what they can "get" out of the trash than getting you dumped and on your way.
Rant-OFF thanks, I needed that!

I'd like to see people stop asking for Target, and Wal-Mart. Locals don't live here so they can run up the road to Target, most us live here to get away from that kind of life. We already have a K-Mart. If you want a Target or something like it get in the car and drive to it. I do agree with something for the youth to do and definitely in the Narrows outlets. I also fully agree with everything bchevy said, fix the real problems that already exist, not add new ones.

Regarding the movie theater...Back in the mid-90's there was a prospective theater that wanted to come to Kent Island and the project never went through because they wanted some really tall sign to indicate where the theater was and it was dis-allowed by the county commissioner.

Splitting hairs here I know but its not that it was disallowed by the county commission. It's just that the proposed sign was in violation of the county sign ordinance and no one wanted to change the ordinance to appease one business.

Where's the group to get these things through?I mean i'm not about the Target and new supermarkets either, but a movie theater or sports complex like Big Vanilla or bowling alley-where is the group that will fight for that-it seems we have a strong one here that shoots down everything because no one is opposing them??Just a thought-and i remember that whole to-do about the sign as well-surely they could find a way to make one acceptable no?

to bowling; i lived here for 5 years. you will not be seeing these type things anytime soon! Other than sporting fields, things that will pertain to youth or family activities(ex, theatres, ice rinks, bowling alleys etc.) would not be allowed by the powers to be. Do you remember the skateboard park by the KIVFD and the arcade in kent towne market. certain people did nothing but complain so the powers to be waited for the opportunity to close them, which did happen. many times during this same discussion i have been told that if the people want these things "let them go to Easton or Annapolis". so don't hold your breath. the longer you live here you will see like i did.

I live here for what it is, not for what it could be. If you moved here because you think it could be better, do the rest of us a favor, and move on. If you're bored, you're boring.
There are plenty of things to do on Kent Island already - ever hear of a boat? How about a bicycle, or baseball/lacrosse/football/soccer?
Grab a kayak and go look around at the reasons most of us moved here in the first place.

I'm the 1st one on here to agree with why we moved here and what keeps me here.... BUT, As it's said many times before growth WILL come..
I'd rather see some places with something to DO, rather than a place to eat, or shop.
"There are plenty of things to do on Kent Island already - ever hear of a boat? How about a bicycle, or baseball/lacrosse/football/soccer? Grab a kayak"
All that's fine and good. However it mostly all goes out the window when the sun goes down, or the skys open up with rain or snow.
If you don't think this place needs a few things for people to do you must be fairly boring yourself......

bchevy, I really don't rely on movie theaters, bowling alleys, video arcades and such to keep myself occupied. if it snows, rains, gets dark, or whatever, I've got things to do.
Never paddled in the rain or snow? You're missing something. Never tried going for a walk when the snow's coming down heavy or when it's dark out (last night was a good example - the moon was pretty bright.
Only boring people are bored. Not needing a movie theater/video arcade/bowling alley doesn't make me boring; it means I'm able to occupy myself - quite the opposite of bored/boring.

How about spending time with the kids instead of sending them off somewhere?

Wouldn't mind a bowling alley or theatre myself. Not a kid, don't have kids, and don't believe I'm boring (no matter what I've been told:)
Just please, let's look at the already existing properties rather than paving over any more land. There's the Safeway (should be available by 2010 or so) or the outlets.
