Water Lady........For a Marine you sure are sensitive my dear. Here's the point you missed. In those days public drunkenness was a crime making Ira a criminal. Should this brave Marine lose any of his rights? I say no. As for knowing what I think, I think, you think, you know what I think. If so tell me what I'm thinking right now........God bless Ira Hayes, and George Hoyt. Two good marines in my book.......ps. God bless you.

I hear this all the time."The criminal has too many rights". If the criminal loses his rights, so do you. Which right do you want to lose, and why?.......Pete Richter for Sheriff 2010 I dont lose my rights when the criminal loses theirs because I am not a criminal.

jetdock......"I don't lose my rights when the criminal loses theirs because I am not a criminal".............Please tell that to Kurt Bloodworth of Cambridge who spent 9 yrs in the Md. Pen. in Balto. for a crime he did not commit.

Thats a differnt story. Your post assumes that we will all lose all rights if the criminal does and thats just not the case.

jetdoc......In the United States the law is suppose to be Just. Justice means that everyone is treated equally. Sure we all know that's not true, but that's how our country was designed. Every citizen needs to stand tall for their rights, and the rights of every other citizen.

Pete, discuss this last statement with me. Should criminals convicted of felonies lose their citizenship? Would that solve the problem? If every citizen should stand tall for their rights...and the rights of every other citizen.....those that don't...shouldn't be citizens? I am not being a smart@ss...I promise....the thought just zipped into my "one cup of coffee brain" and now it is intriguing me.

Or are you thinking more "Escape from NY?" Also not trying to be a smart@ss. This could solve some problems (and likely cause others).

It's just that the percentage of innocent people vs the guilty is really quite small. Once convicted, you should have no rights at all. If wrongly convicted you have appeals to have your case overturned, and if your exonerated you should be able to exercise your rights. I could care less what happens in Prison. As far as I am concerned, as long as they have a cot and toilet and bread and water, what else do they need. Why should criminals be treated better than some who are barely treading water to put food on the table... It's simple, you kill someone you should die. You steal, cut your hands off, you rape --casterate, you molest a child you should die.. You sell drugs, force them down your throa till your OD and die.....

The death penalty should be applied to rapists as well. Rape is something insurance cannot replace and it affectsd a person for the rest of their lives. While we're on the topic, ten years on death row is ridiculous. 30 days after proven guilty to wrap up your personal affairs and send them to the chair. If the bad guys knew the penalties were harsh, they may think twice about crime in the first place.

Oh I have been very good here & haven't replied... but cannot contain anymore... my thoughts: If you have commited ANY crime that is punishable by serving a prison term - you should have NO rights while you are in prison NOR should you be able to live better than the average everyday LAW ABIDING citizen. I do believe is restoration though... I do believe that there are folks who have made stupid mistakes and are truly sorry for them! Even those who have commited horrid crimes, i believe if properly done can be a productive citizen when released. This could go on & on & on & on & on & on...................................... & on I think that those that have commited serious crimes & have had to serve more than 3 years should have their rights stripped of them when they are released & they have to earn them back by being productive, law abiding citizens...
But the issue here is the $$$ who's gonna foot the bill for that? taxpayers? well they don't want their taxes raised, but they will be quick to criticize... is there an easy answer... NO, but i believe there is one... will we ever reach it? Probably not... at least not in my lifetime...
So i pose this question to you guys... what about the person who kills someon in a car accident & is convicted of vehicular manslaughter & is sentenced to prison? I wouldn't place them in the same category of the hardened criminals... so there is no easy answer... there are so many different scenarios..
I would also like to say for the record... those that say their circumstances made them do it, there have been several people that made something out of themselves when the circumstances were against them. I knwo they are tough circumstances but at some point there has to be a choice...

falgar25...."Should criminals convicted of felonies lose their citizenship? Would that solve the problem?" No
"If every citizen should stand tall for their rights...and the rights of every other citizen.....those that don't...shouldn't be citizens?" No
....The main problem with the justice system is the corruption. To solve the problem you must start at the top, and work down. It's impossible to stop all the crime, but things could be a lot better with good leadership. example: How can you tell the public speed kills when the cops are driving like lunatics? Why would you inform on a criminal when you stand a chance of your name being made public? Why would a good cop risk his life fighting crime when Barney Fife is the boss? etc. If our leaders walked the walk the nation will follow.

I believe that the real criminals shouldn't have any rights at all because they prey on our society and everyday normal people. But on the other hand you have to think of the people that were wrongfully convicted for a crime they did not commit. When I witnessed the trial of Robert McClendon I was appalled. The prosecutors allowed the accusers to lie throughout the whole trial to convict him when in fact they did this to take advantage of him including stealing everything the man owned from his home. We have the evidence posted at: America's Wrongfully Convicted Here's his site: www.americaswrongfullyconvicted.com/robert_mcclendon.htm
