Hey all,
A friend of mine from work (she's a vet tech too) just let me know her dad's dog got out and is missing.
Last seen in CHESAPEAKE HARBOR ESTATES on Saturday, she's a 6 year old pittbull named Jade. She's all black with some gray and white around her mouth bc of her age. She is a super sweet girl, and her daddy would like her back!
If you've seen her or know where she is, please call April at 443-504-7401.
Thanks!

It never hurts to have your friend contact Animal Control, ARF, Chesapeake Cats and Dogs, you can find their contact information at the bottom, under the section about Animals. Also, I'd call Bev's grooming, Bay Vet, Town and Country Animal Hospital, Chesapeake vets too.
Hopefully he will be found soon! -cg

...some child gets their face ripped off.
Yea, yea, I know it's a sweet lovable dog but how many times have we read horrific news accounts of people/children being mauled by "gentle" pit bulls. Usually it goes like this, "The pit bull attacked the child (fill in the blank with the usual horrific details) and the owner said, 'I don't understand it, the dog loves children. It plays with my children all the time....' "
I'm sure this dog is lovable and cute but let's hope it is found before something clicks in its mind and attacks someone.

It is apparent that you are not educated about Pit Bulls are you? They are like German Shepherds, Barb, Sharon....Pit Bulls, Eine, Dobermans I adore.
Perhaps you should educate yourself. ARF has had some of the most gently pit bulls. Not all owners are Michael Vick!
Pit Bulls are "trained" to attack, actually they are some of the smartest dogs that one can own. As an animal lover, kindly think about these beautiful dogs before insulting them and making assinine accusations.

I just had to quote you for fun! Einebeirbitte and her husband own some lovely lap dogs, guess what....they are pit's, and snuggle bugs. Yes they have the jaws of life. But Bitte is no Michael Vick in any way, and the more educated owners of pit's are not like vick. Kindly crawl out from your rock and open your eyes about this breed. -cg

Thanks, CG for defending my friend's dog!
Jeff, it makes me sad to see someone turn an innocent post into something ugly for no reason. Let's try and remember a family who is upset at the disappearance of their beloved pet, and how they must be feeling. I can only hope that someone of your ignorance hasn't done something horrible to Jade.
As of this evening, Jade has not been found. April has made flyers and contacted many of the places you suggested CG - thanks again for all the recommendations!

There are no "bad" dogs...only bad owners. Period.
Melingham, I do hope your friend finds her dog.

Just an FYI, if you really did your research you would find that Pitbulls aren't even in the top 5 of "dog attacks". Sadly, they are the ones that are reported as "big" news by the media.
Anything with teeth, and claws has the potential to maul.
22 years ago, my best friends daughter had to have reconstructive surgery on her face after being attacked by a toy poodle.
Go educate yourself before you open your mouth about something you know nothing about.
Oh and one more thing.... Dogs of any breed rarely attack with out being provoked, teased or whatever, that is one thing the news never reports.... exactly what happened minutes before the attack.
Yes, I do understand that Pitt's have the potential to cause great harm, but if raised properly, they are the best pets a family can have!
Not everyone can be a pit owner, not all pits are dangerous.(those that are dangerous are because of how they were raised)....and yes my Pit, who sadly passsed away last month at the age of 13 years was undoubtedly the most precious 70lb lap dog you ever met....
and my 2 year old soldier.....just ask my house cleaners who come when we aren't home how he behaves...
Sorry for the hijack and the sermon.... Hope your dog is found and soon!

I sent the link to ARF, I don't know the people at Animal Control or Chesapeake Cats and Dogs. But ARF now has the entire thread to read, and if they come upon her they will help.
Did you contact Animal Control? This is the first place missing pets go to.
I know how much it hurts to lose a beloved pet, and hope that Jade is found!

Just a suggestion, but a friend of mine had success using www.findtoto.com...... It's a service that for a fee, will 'robo-call' all of the residential phones within a certain radius of the spot where you lost your pet. They provide a call-in number a web service reporting function for anyone who has seen your pet. This is especially helpful if someone has decided to simply take your pet in to their home and 'adopt' her without checking around. findtoto.com actually has a pretty good success rate....might be worth a try.

Sorry about your dog. It's true the Pitts have been made out to be killers ..... So If I see one around my kids it's 12 ga time for them, I am NOT going to "find out" if the owners were "educated"or not on how to raise a lap dog pitt. Now slam me

Do you hate dogs? I'm going to follow the advice of the pit bull lovers on this page and if I ever see a pit bull running loose the first thing I'm going to do is grab him and give him lots of huggies and kisses all over his poochy woochy mouth because I know the owners are kind people.
All these media reports of pit bulls ripping the faces off of children and adults are all propaganda put out by the media for the sake of getting people to buy newspapers. These stories are all fake.
And don't you know that toy poodles are the most vicious attack dogs around!
Get out from under that rock you're hiding under and do some research.
Besides, you can always tell from looking at a stray pit bull that the owners are kind, gentle and loving people. How can you tell? DUH!! The dog is smiling and has no blood around it's mouth.
Get with the program NightNurse.
By the way, the photo of the lost dog looks nothing like a pit bull.
One more thing, while it's true pit bulls don't "kill" a lot of people they do maim, maul, mutilate and generally create catastrophic tissue damage to the object that they are attacking but they don't KILL many people it's true.
Seriously, however, I did take the advice of one of the posters and googled pit bull attacks and toy poodle attacks and I was quite shocked by the results. Ummmm...it appears there are more pit bull attacks than toy poodle attacks. True any dog can bite but if you do more research you'll find that the damage a pit bull causes is horrendous.
Now, I'm happy that there are pit bull lovers on this page and I would never ever wish harm to any dog, I've owned many over my life and cried each time I had to put them to sleep, but if I'm walking down the street with my children or even by myself and I see a big pit bull coming in my direction, unleashed, I know what I'm going to do. I'm getting out of the way of this dog, crossing the street, doing whatever I have to do to avoid this dog.
If the Peta posters on this thread want to cuddle up to a strange dog then that's their decision. I'll err on the side of common sense and safety.
And I truly hope the owners of this dog find it safe and sound. I'm sure they are heartbroken. But I wish some of the posters here would explain to the public how you can tell if a dog was raised by kind, gentle people or people who beat and mistreat the dog?
C'mon, I have a pencil and paper ready to take notes. You would be doing the world a service by sharing this knowledge with mankind.
Oh, if you want to get personal and get nasty, call people names, in general avoid the subject and resort to ad hominem attack go ahead if it makes you feel better.
Nightnurse, I believe many of the pit bull defenders on this thread don't have children. As a parent you have to be vigilant and ever watchful with every dog, leashed and unleashed. As a parent you are responsible for the safety of your children. There's enough to worry about without taking chances with a unleashed pit bull coming in your direction.
This post was tongue in cheek and was not intended as a personal attack on any posters....unlike the responses to my original post.

First and foremost dude, I have raised two children to adulthood, with out any incident from any of our numerous pitbulls.
Any animal has the propensity to maim, maul and do damage....Pittbulls, rottweilers, dalmations, shephards, chiuahaha, doxies, ANYTHING WITH TEETH.
My dogs have never roamed around freely, nor will they ever for I AM A RESPONSIBLE PITBULL OWNER.
There is no way you can tell the obvious nature of a strange dog, and I never implied that you could....However, you and others implied that one should be terrified of all pitbulls, and your wrong. You and your kids are safe around my dogs, but you know what I would never leave my dogs alone with you or your kids...not because I don't trust my dogs, I don't trust you. Simple as that.... So I always err on the side of caution to protect my dogs and protect those who come around.
I know there are dangerous dogs out there. I know there are dangerous Pitts out there. You would never catch me or my kids or grandkids going up to a strange dog even a pittbull, especially one not on it's leash and no owner around to ask permission first.
My comment about the toy poodle, was just that a reference that ANY BREED has the ability to inflect seriouse damage. In no way shape or form did I accuse the toy poodle breed of being a vicious breed that we all should run away from.
There are many times that the news reports a pittbull attack and then they show the picture of the dog....not even close to be even a drop of pit blood in them...but nevertheless joe public automatically assumes...and more bad press.
My first post was not a personal attack to you, and neither is this one. I don't suport PETA either.

Oh and one more thing, there is probably a huge possibility that I am tad more sensitive about this right now, due to the fact that I just lost my faithful precious dog and I am still in mourning and grieving...because she was a big part of our family ever since she came into our lives at 6 weeks of age...traveled all over Europe with me, and was always there for me all those long months while DH was/is deployed.... So I apologize for being so defensive.

This post was tongue in cheek and was not intended as a personal attack on any posters....unlike the responses to my original post.I have children...and I have taught them to never approach any type of dog because ALL dogs have teeth and can cause harm. But to put the type of posting of yours in this This thread was totally unnecessary and can only cause more heartache to the people who are desperately trying to find their beloved pet. I just don't understand the reasoning behind these type of posts...no one asked for an opinion of the dog lost...they just wanted to let everyone know she was lost and to please report her to Animal Control if you see her. A few weeks ago 2 standard poodles tore up a child...she even knew the dogs..guess we should all be afraid of Standard poodles now. I have a German Shepherd...if you tried to get into my house he would rip you to shreds...but if you are invited in..he would be a lap dog. Doesn't make him a vicious dog. Not all pit bulls are horrible...a lot of them are Mislabeled and aren't even pit bulls. Have you seen the website: www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html Most people can NOT find the pit bull. I am not saying Every pit is a nice dog...but to condemn them all is just wrong. To exhibit caution is a good thing. Its just mean and ignorant to post what you and Nightnurse did in this thread. The only reason to post something so mean is to cause chaos and get a response out of people. To me you owe these people an apology not for your opinion...but for posting your opinion in this thread. Make up a new thread to post your fears about Pits.
