GBM - WHAT? Someone who doesn't know how to be a parent? I can blame some of the parenting on this - but d**n! not all of it!

GBM, you are full of it. I AM A GOOD MOTHER AND HAVE TWO GREAT KIDS - my third child is ADHD and is a total handful that is constantly in trouble and he is 28. There are bad parents with bad kids. There are bad parents with good kids. There are good parents with bad kids as well. There are a lot of factors that go into parenting, some environmental, some physical, as in my son's case - we did everything right - baseball, football, wrestling, checked all his friends. My husband was and is a good father and we have been together 37 years. We are still struggling with him and have not given up. I totally resent your accusation that it is all a parent's fault if a child goes bad.

probably a big can of worms, but,
It's my understanding that there's no real test for the ADD stuff, chemical, physical, mental, etc. Something that you can put your hands on as a result of a test to show that something's wrong. Mostly opinions on behavior?
And that most of the time it's diagnosed by teachers who can't control their class. and that we- the U.S.A. are the only country that even recognizes ADD/ADHD?
I do believe that we have a lot of bored kids in this country, the smart ones are dumbed down in the schools so the dumb ones can keep up/sort of. Challenge the kids in class instead of boring them. and then medicating/poisoning them. I was one of the bored ones in my day, I got out and went to work, and did fine, read FINE, without the paper. I am thankfull that ADD/ADHD etc was NOT in school when I was for I am sure that my divorced mom would have went with the teacher's advise and medicated me.
I am NOT trying to start anything here, just asking the question

Dr. bchevy unless you have lived it, don't prejudge people - I have had lots of heartache over the last 28 years - my son doesn't want to be "bad" - he just has trouble focusing and it causes it all kinds of problems- wish you could have been in my shoes one night when I was trying to help him with his homework - you are right about the teachers wanting to automatically medicate - I don't agree with that. The child must be diagnosed. And yes, they can be diagnosed. My son wouldn't even be able to read had it not been for the medication. Just because it wasn't identified when you were going to school, doesn't mean it wasn't there.

adhd is a parents excuse for a bad seed. When I was a youngster I was ADD... i still have it now. I have a hard time concentrating one 1 thing without getting bored, that's why my new jobs helps out alot. But anyway, you say your son has ADHD which makes him a criminal? What does focusing have to do with staying out of trouble??

You really have issues GBM - watching you on this site with all your ramblings and this issue about my son has confirmed this - you know nothing about me or my son and for you to cast judgment on us just burns my a__. Why don't you start your own site in your beaver/cleaver "wonderful" life and hometown and leave us alone. I sure am glad I don't have to live around your negative attitudes. I pity your family and "friends". I'm done now. No more on this topic as I am getting myself upset over ignorant remarks.

Jeeze... I see where the son might get it from. If you are getting upset over text; my lady, you have issues. Oh I did start a site for my beaver/cleaver hometown... www.greensboromd.netBChev, there is not actual test. They put you in a room, ask you questions and if you fail they say "OH NOES U HAV ADHD OMG"

Every parent who has a kid who's been "diagnosed" w/t ADD and put on drugs is defensive like this. They've been sold the whole, 'we have a pill for everything' medical culture in this country. You can't watch T.V. for 20 Min's without seeing a new drug for every possible problem. Personally, I think diet & ex cerise plays a lot bigger role in these things than most people give it credit for.
I heard today over in England they are trying to stop the practice of kids raising yheir hands in class to answer a question because in makes the kids who don't know the answer feel bad.

MrsMule used to run a licensed daycare. ADD is real and a child who has it isn't necessarily 'bad'. It's amazing to watch a child go from chair to chair at a six chair table without touching the floor. It's just as difficult watching them struggle with their school work when not medicated. Our 'Beth' would become so frustrated with stuff that the rest of us can handle. This little girl was special and wanted so bad to do things right. She'll be turning 16 this July and still is very special to us and is still medicated.
Are there bad kids out there that have been given the ADD excuse for the things that they do? Are there kids out there that are medicated because Mom and Dad are too into themselves to be the parents they should be? Yes to both. Seen it for myself. But on the other side of the coin, as said above, ADD is real.
