I used to go fishing there on a regular basis for about 50 years but haven't been for the past 5.
The last summer I went there I remember the locals telling me that teens were causing problems with drinking, drugs and mugging the fishermen at night.
How's the fishing, crabbing and safety of the area since it's been open on a 24 hour basis?

Last year my 1o year old son would go all the time. He wend during the day with an older friend, no problems. We would also go at night, no problems, They caught a lot of , I would have to ask him what they were. We went this year for the first time about a wk ago. Will never go again. First of all $10 to park their and to fish. That is crazy. I wish I would have taken Spanish in highschool, not french. People were catching fish, too small and keeping them, pulling crabs up keepin them and they were to small....... Watched a 2 year old almost go over the railing because no one was paying attention. Had a little 4 year old boy pull his pants down and peed right in front of us. The worst part about that is, they didnt even throw water over it so you dont walk on it. Im sorry, but people wonder WHY we get so mad when people come to our country and not take care of it, they dont care..... P.S - Bring your spanish books...

Soo, disgusting. This along with the Terrapin Park thread...something needs to be done. At the beginning of the summer, I took my dog down there just to check it out. It was a windy day, so I was only going to stay 10 mins. No sooner than I get out of my car, the"Ticket Lady" comes over and asked if I paid. I told her I was only staying for 10 mins and she let me slide. My question is, if they are so worried about getting their 10 bucks, why don't the worry about the pier itself and what goes on there?!?!? Getting real tired of hearing all this stuff about the non-English-speaking crowd and the sh*t they are doing to our island!! Sorry had to vent.

I have been doing Romancoke peir for 30 years now and it has ALWAYS been the same. Someone is keeping crabs too small, too many fish, peeing off the end, drinking and foul talk ect. ect. I am realy starting to think that this board breads hate. I do feel that the $10.00 charge is too much, and I do dearly miss Mr Brooks who use to collect the fee in the 80's. He had the best war tales, we teens would just sit and listen to him.

I think its about time we got pissed off....before everything is ruined. Don't really care Who it is that is ruining stuff...they need to be stopped. I would never let my child pull his pants down and take a whiz in front of people...that is disgusting....I would never leave my trash laying around etc.

I am realy starting to think that this board breads hate. All of these things you seem to think is no big thing refer to laws being broken. (Possible exception may the foul talk, since some seem to think that's a Freedom of Speech issue). What is so hateful about being concerned laws are being broken? The laws regulating crab sizes & fish limits are to help make sure there will be crabs to steam and fish to catch when my grandkids grow up. The public drunkeness, peeing of the pier and foul talk show a lack of common decency or respect for others. But I guess that isn't being hateful to people who want to take kids to the pier to fish & crab?

NO, NO, NO,,, You missed my point or I was not clear about it. I course I don't want anyone taking under size fish or crabs. I have kids too and want them to fish and crab as well. What I was talking about was all the negative comments regarding the spanish speaking population. Islandgirl made off color remarks as well as pirategirl, this along with the Tarrapin Pake thread seems to be a common dislike for Spanish speaking people on this forum.

Perhaps it's more a common dislike for people who trash areas with no respect for the law or even for simple common decency, regardless of language. I haven't bothered to fish from the Romancoke Pier this year, as most pay-piers offer far more for less.
I had fished off Terrapin beach a couple times in the early spring, when the weather was still cool & wet. Even then there was a small amount of trash, but I could usually carry off a fair amount of it with a grocery store plastic bag I would take for that purpose.
I didn't get there again until mid-July. By then I couldn't have hauled off that amount of trash with my pickup. I also was the only non-Hispanic on the beach at that time. Maybe it was just an amazing coincidence, but the large volume of trash seem to appear with a largely Hispanic crowd.
I won't presume to speak for others, but to me it seems to be more than random chance. My dislike is not for Hispanics. It's for people who, going back to my first statement, trash areas and ignore rules with impunity. The rules are there for all to see in Spanish as well as English so language is no excuse for the behaviour and mess left behind. The fact that it appears many of these people also happen to speak Spanish is irrelevant.

Nope, I dont dislike Spanish speaking people. Do you know how hard it was for me to try to tell one of that little girls guardians that day that she was 1/2 way over the railing getting ready to fall into the bay, or to tell them their lil boy was peeing in front of everybody, where we are all walking??? Then they laughed , like no big deal. I normally dont chime in on these threads becuase it gets crazy. For the few people on this forum that personally knw me, they know who I am. Far from what Nightnurse thinks.
