I don't remember seeing anything for this so for all of you dog owners & lovers. If you haven't considered having your dog be a blood donor it is a great thing to do.
Here is the link to eastern veterinary blood bank
www.evbb.com/
They are located in Severna Park by Tuesday Mornings on the west side of Rt2 before you get to the Bowling Ally.
BENEFITS PROVIDED BY THE EVBB TO DONORS IN GOOD STANDING:
Physical examination before each donation
Blood Typing
Blood Chemistry Profile and Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Heartworm test
Ehrlichia, Hemobartonella, and Babesia testing (diseases spread by ticks)
Brucella testing (once for neutered dogs and yearly testing for intact dogs)
For each unit of blood donated, a donor is eligible to receive one unit of blood or plasma should illness or injury ever warrant its use.
EVBB tag which identifies the dog as a blood donor, and can be traced through the EVBB if the owner cannot otherwise be located
EVBB bandanna identifying the donor as a life saver
Various free pet health and nutrition giveaways
And plenty of dog treats before and after each donation, thanks to...
REQUIREMENTS FOR BECOMING A BLOOD DONOR:
A healthy canine weighing 35 pounds or more and between the ages of 9 months and 7 ½ years. (A dog may remain in the program until they reach the age of 8 ½ years. Therefore, a dog must be no older than 7 ½ years to make the required one year commitment.) Blood donors must have no history of serious diseases, and cannot be on medication.
A commitment to donate five to seven times over the course of one year. (Dogs can safely donate as often as every three weeks.)
Donors must be brought to our facility or to a blood drive location. If you are not in our area, please contact us; we may be able to direct you to a nearby donation site.
Dogs must be maintained on heartworm preventive and must be current with their regular veterinarian's preventive health and vaccination schedule.
Please note that some medications may exclude your dog from the blood donor program. Please contact us for details prior to scheduling an appointment
Please note that we cannot function as a hospital should your pet become ill in any way.
It is a great way to give back or pay it forward for other canine friends. I wanted to have our new little fella 'Patch' to be a donor but he is a little guy & doesn't meet the weight req.
So if anyone out there wants to help in yet another way this is a great way to do it. Check out the web site or give them a call at 800-949-EVBB (3822) for questions & to schedule a visit to start your gift to our canine pals.
Its a good thing to do & you will feel great doing it!
