I mean this in a serious way. (And yes there are, by the way, I'm one of them.) Unknown to most of the general population, is the fact that Paganism is the fastest growing religious demographic in the US today! That being said, I wanted to see if this post would garner any responses from either side of the fence about the subject. Perhaps the reason for the sudden interest? Are there unseen forces driving this phenom? Does this subject make you uncomfortable? Let's discuss it!

I think a lot of people feel the need to reconnect to nature and view Paganism, Druidism, Wicca, etc., as a means of doing so. The subject does not make me uncomfortable at all. I doubt you'll find many Pagans or Witches on Kent Island; you may want to try attending a Quaker Meeting for Worship. There's a Meetinghouse in Easton called Third Haven ( www.thirdhaven.org ), which I'm a member of. While I'm not sure if there are any Quagans (Quaker Pagans) at Third Haven, we are pretty open-minded and there are many of us who revere nature. Also, see here: kentisland.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=religion&action=display&thread=3132

Funnel probably said it best about a connection to nature. Some people I know want something spiritual in their lives, but don't buy into the major religions.
A lack of response may not indicate a lack of Pagans, but may indicate a lack of private people willing to be public about their beliefs. .

There are many of us here who want to keep our bay, river, and crabs healthy and are level headed non-Pagan people. But since you want to garner responses from either side, I'll be glad to give my views. I think its great for people to care for and cherish nature; however, I think its a completely different thing when people start to worship nature Gods and Goddesses. The subject does not make me uncomfortable and if people want to worship nature so be it. I don't know of any "unseen forces driving this" lifestyle. Personally, I feel groups would have more credence if they didn't dress freaky and call themselves funny names (like the streets of Columbia, MD). If people want to seriously worship nature, why don't they just join the 4-H or something wholesome like that?

Would you like me to list all things Christians could stop doing if they wanted more credence?

Serious question... Not meant to stir the pot... And upfront if u dont know I am a Christian... Just something I never understood even before I knew Christ... Why worship the created thing and not the Creator of the thing? I feel one feeds into the other...

Why make up a "creator" when scientific discovery after discovery only shows there is no need for one? Understanding our world, our universe, precludes a need for one. Religion is no more than a crutch used by those who are seeking an explanation of what they don't understand. Rather, seek understanding of the universe.

Do you have a problem with all religions or just Christianity? I disagree with your blanket statement of saying religion is a crutch for "those who are seeking an explanation of what they don't understand." There is plenty to Christianity that I don't understand. For me, Christ is not a crutch for things I don't understand. However, Christ is forever my crutch to help me love and live even when things can be so incredibly bad. Understanding the universe is a great and scholarly thing to achieve. But, would it be so bad to also get to know Christ?

How about getting to know all 2400+ "gods" being worshipped in the world today. They are all just as "legitimate."

Christians have the lion's share of the threads in this subforum. Do you have to be eveywhere?
I'm not going to indulge you, Lynn. To do so would be to insult other Christians that I don't wish to offend.
I find your tone in reply #7 either ignorant or condescending. I can't tell which. Do you, or don't you know what you're talking about when it comes to religions other than your own?

I would beg to differ Tom... Scientific discovery & archaeological discovery have shown that what the Bible claims is truth happened... If we are all some DNA soup that has evolved from other species why are there still those species (thinking we are from Monkeys here)? How can u exain DNA being so perfect and individual to each person if we evolved? Cause if we've evolved, in that theory we will have different and better DNA somewhere in the distant future? Even Darwin couldn't figure out the eyeball...
Not trying to "prove u wrong" just stating some of my reasons of disagreement. And I agree with Lynn... Not a crutch. Takes strength to let go of self and admit that u are nothing without Him. In our self centered, all about me world... Yea I guess that would appear weak... But the Bible tells me that it's foolishness to those who don't believe so totally makes sense that u call it a crutch

I'll answer it. Every religion is a created thing. There is no "creator".

Then how r u here? If there's no creator... And if u believe in evolution explain my questions above... And I would agree to a point... Religion is man made.... That's the problem, we as a society only see religion... Not relationships... Sadly many "religions" totally miss the mark on what the Bible defines as Church & Christianity. And sadly those seem to be the majority and loudest voices... But the Bible explains that as well...

Even Darwin couldn't figure out the eyeball... We did not evolve FROM monkeys, as commonly thought by theologians, the branches of the tree split developing into different creatures best suited for their niche. As for better/different DNA in the future, yes, since we are continually evolving, something that has been seen in species around the world. DNA in specific individuals isn't "special" and "perfect." Each individual has differences in their DNA. Some good, some bad, causing various diseases, which over time, will eliminate the "bad genes" from the population if the change is sufficient to limit the breeding ability of the individual. For a "crash course" in evolution, take a look at www.ucsd.tv/evolutionmatters/lesson2/study.shtml/url]Especially interesting is the study of embryology in regards to evolution shown on the latter half of the quoted page.

Shorti... I think the hurdle you're having a hard time getting over is that not everyone believes in what you do. Not everyone believes the Bible to be true and factual but rather a best selling novel that people bought into.
"Sadly" there are a lot of people that think just because someone doesn't believe in one almighty creator that they're wrong. For all I know we are in a petri dish that' someone is studying.

Do you, or don't you know what you're talking about when it comes to religions other than your own? Rob, I wasn't trying to offend you or the original poster. I responded to him because he asked a question to EVERYONE and I wanted to answer it. Many times I have written in the political threads about how much I like Bush and Reagan. Immediately afterwards someone responds back "no he sucks blah, blah." My response was not just to say "pagans and witches are strange." No, I do not know much at all about pagans and witches. I know the basics of many religions, but only know Christianity well. However, even though I believe I know Christianity well, there is still plenty I don't understand about my religion. I go to church and learn something new everyday.

Oh not a hurdle at all.... I myself used to think that very same thing... I totally get that... Yet no one has answered my question. Someone/something created the things that pagans/wiccans worship or are they all evolutionists that believe it was all random? And if that's the case, why and what are you worshiping/practicing if its all just random occurrence... It's a legit question.... The previous is what I believe is truth... With complete understanding that not everyone believes that... Mentioned above... My point was more because tomc came right back with sarcasm... I was explaining what my beliefs say the reason for his and others sarcasm and the calling my faith a crutch.
