Not entirely sure if this should go in here or on Politico, but thought it would fit better in here. from here: www.cnn.com/2010/US/09/07/florida.quran.burning/?hpt=SbinMy thoughts: no, Pastor, your message is not clear. ALL Muslims revere the Holy Qur'an, not just members of the "radical element". Does he have the right to do this? Of course. Is it in any respect a good idea? No.

it was him or one of his people being interviewed this morning who said, when told there are/would be reprisals in afghanistan, etc., that it would be "tragical" if any of ours got killed, but that he is not responsible.
he is clearly being provocative, and he knows it. he reals needs to calm down. he is sending an unpleasant message not only to terrorists, but to all followers of the koran, and to any people of different faiths. it's sad that our nation is coming to this.

So where does it end? We'll long forget who threw the first stone, if we ever knew. All that we'll have left is a pile of rubble.

well.... you all know my thoughts on faith - i think i've expressed those well on here... however - this pastor is way off base! and while tolerance isn't working but this won't work either. This is just start violence from the muslim/islamic community & their supporters. Now don't get me wrong, i'm not a "supporter" or anything like that - but i think this pastor is giving the Christians here in the US as well as around the world that truly believe in what Christ was all about - a terrible name because sadly, it's the few bad apples that people will pay attention to & write off the good ones. As Christians we are called to love people - regardless of what they believe in. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that you are best friends & hang out with them, but you love them because they - like you - are a creation of God. And if you do by chance have the opportunity to pour into this person's life, then perhaps they will see that what you believe is real - not just a Sunday thing, but an everyday, dependence on Him to guide you & your actions. "Preach always, use words when necessary"... favorite quote... this guy isn't preaching - what he is doing is ... well it isn't effective that's for sure...

I don't condone book burning, censorship or anything else, however, If I was holding a Quran and was walking past a fire pit and tripped and the book fell into the fire, I don't think I would be upset... Nope not at all.....

I was thinking recent history that we can relate to. The creation of Israel as a Jewish state in 1948 cemented the hate and with the 6 day war in 1967 that really got things boiling that we deal with to this day.

good thing the terrorists were not methodists or something--would the good preacher and all of his 50 followers then be burning their own bibles?

The book burning doesn’t bother me as much as the indirect condoning of the potential violence against this church? Why aren’t we admonishing, investigating and seeking the groups threatening this church?
Why do we have this double standard, if this were the American flag or the bible, would Hillary Clinton and President Obama have gone out of their way to "implore" people not to do it? Not a chance. Why does the Quran deserve more attention than anything else?
I am worried too, I have close friends that are still deployed and this may put them at risk, but at what point do we say that we have laws, we have thousands of people who have died defending these laws and we don’t live in fear of a pissed of Muslim just like we don’t live in fear of a pissed of Methodist! I don’t think this is a great idea either (the burning), but I do respect the sacrifice that has been made to allow this church their freedom of speech. Laws have to be applied equally or not at all, not just when it wins votes or placates sections of the public.

Unfortunate PS to this story, he actually did it (burned it), which has gotten a lot of killed, injured and violence over in the Middle East.

Not to be argumentative...but...I am pretty sure there were a couple of other things that caused those things too.... Not that him doing that helped anything at all...
