The recent post about Big Bats points out how agitated customers become when confronted by stupid restaurant policies.
I have a couple of others. Rams Head charges $2.50 for any substitutions. Like coleslaw instead of fries. They increase the price of the entree to hide it. It is not disclosed on the menu and according to the one of the owners it is their policy.
The Dockside restaurant in Canton charges 18% gratuity on every check regardless of the number of people. i.e. a single diner gets charged. At least they do disclose this on the menu however.
As a business person I understand how hard it is to get new customers and how easy it is to lose them. I can't understand why owners would establish a policies that will cause them to lose business.
Any others?

How about Annie's? As high as their prices are and they won't give you free refills!

that 18% gratuity kills me at times mainly because there are 6 in my family & some places are "parties of 6 or more". It also sucks for the waitor/waitress... cause we typically start at 20% on our own - but when they tell me i HAVE to without choice.... well it just sours me... the only time we go over what we dont' have a choice with is if the service was so over the top good!!!

Me too. I generally tip 20-30% depending on the meal. Usually the less the bill, the more I tip (an $8 breakfast is worth more than $1.60 tip) When the tip is automatically put on my bill, I just pay it, no worries. It pisses me off however, when the tip is automatically added to the bill, and the server does not mention that to the guests. A lot of people just look at the bottom line and add a tip.

When eating out I always leave a 20% tip, of the total bill before any discounts are taken off. ALOT of people look at the total after any discounts are applied and tip based on that total which is almost nothing, especially if you have a BOGO coupon so your bill only comes to around $18.99. If my check is less than $20 I leave no less than $5 because I know as a server getting a $2 to $3 tip really stinks.

Rather, why should 'we' have to tip? Yes I know that wait staff dont get paid much & that really sucks but with prices being what they are restaurant owners are making a profit so tell me why arent the employers required to pay at least min wage. Why should I be expected & in many cases left without the choice, other than not going there, to pay his staff? I think it stinks. When we go out for dinner we pay according to the service. If there is a gratuity charge automatically added well thats it all you get.

While Im here let me add another pet peeve.
What happened to when you go into a business, be it Walmart, Home Depot, Safeway etc. You go through the register & pay. You are handed your change, bills & receipt all in a bunch. What happened to counting back the change just to be sure it is correct then hand the customer the receipt. Also wouldnt it be nice to have your purchase placed at least in front of you so you dont have to wrestle with the carousel & other plastic bags. Often before you can even get your bags pulled off the thing the cashier has started to fill the next customers bag & goes to turn the carousel. How lazy can people be & how unprofessional.

Also wouldnt it be nice to have your purchase placed at least in front of you so you dont have to wrestle with the carousel & other plastic bags. Often before you can even get your bags pulled off the thing the cashier has started to fill the next customers bag & goes to turn the carousel. How lazy can people be & how unprofessional. some of them put your bags in your basket, some at least shoe the bags to where you can reach them, so do what you say. i have to assume that not only do they not have any common sense, but neither do the supervisors, who, it appears, have to train common sense but do not.
