The older I get the more I side with Ron Paul's foreign policy views. We need to stop being the world police and focus on ourselves for a bit. Completely agree! Don't we have enough issues in our own country before we run out and try to save the world?

Mitt's complete lack of any intelligence on the Embassy matter. This guy is so out of touch I can't believe some of you want him as a President. I've got an idea...how about you get the facts before releasing a statement slamming the President. Maybe he should have just stayed at his Mormon mission in France.

It seems Obama also had a complete lack of intelligence... In fact he went to bed before it was over, having no idea of the outcome, God knows he needs his rest to campaign and golf. Now that is poor leadership

Romney's lack of intelligence? Nice regurgitation of the Democratic talking point. I wish the media gave half the air time they have used attacking Romney to address some questions about the embassy attacks, but they seem to prefer to follow the White House in looking at Romney rather than the Islamic attackers. (In their defense, they ARE less likely to be killed by Romney followers)
The embassy in Egypt had intelligence that the attack was planned, and issued their first statement condemning the actions of some nutjob and his youtube video about 5 hours prior to the attack on the embassy. Did the embassy alert Egyptian security and police? I would strongly suspect so. Why didn't the Egyptians have additional forces on hand to fulfill their government's obligation to protect the embassy? Where's the media interest in that item?
Was it coordinated with Al Quida, as the President's people are now hinting the Libyan attack may have been? When the Cairo attackers took down the U.S. flag, they replaced it with a black flag bearing a Muslim declaration of faith, very similar to a flag Al Queda has displayed. The crowd was also chanting references to Osama. Romney's statement has drawn far more air time and coverage than the possibility of this being a coordinated attack.
It sure seems like the President of Egypt, if he was not actually in planning the attack, certainly allowed it to happen. Then it took him almost 24 hours to put out a statement (on Facebook!), while at the same time members of his Muslim Brotherhood were calling for another day of rioting against the Americans. Why isn't the media being as critical of Morsi as they are of Romney?
The Egyptian attack took place at about 11:30 AM EDT, the Libyan attack at about 4:15 PM EDT. Romney's statement was at 10:10 PM. The President didn't make a statement until 10:45 AM the next day. Certainly the President knew of these attacks well before Romney. I feel Romney did the right thing in condemning attacks on American embassies. Why didn't the President quickly and publically put both governments on the spot by calling for both the Egyptian and Libyan governments to meet their international obligations? While human life has very little value or significance in the Islamic world, "saving face" is critical in their culture. Why did the President have to wait almost 24 hours from the first attack to condemn them? (At least he didn't use Facebook). To many people in that part of the world, such a long delay with no significant response indicates weakness and timidty. Was that really the intelligent response?
Even less intelligent was the actions of the embassy staff in Cairo, in trying to appease with a condemnation / apology for the actions one American citizen. Followers of Islam have proven repeatedly words mean nothing to them. Saying nothing at all about the video would have probably have been better. In the Islamic world, just talking about something you can't control (like this video) is often taken as a sign of weakness. That is probably the reaason for the almost total lack of response from Morsi, as he has little or no control over the Islamic Brotherhood, and harsh words without harsh action would be seen as weakness on his part. Many in that part of the world seem incapable of comprehending that an individual has a right to free expression, even if that individual wants to express what kind of hate filled bigot he is. In their world, expression of hateful religious bigotry has to be approved by the government, which it often is.
Lastly, I wonder if there were no casualties, would the President have even condemned the attacks, or would his statement have been more like the Cairo embassy statement? We'll never know, but based on past overseas apology tours, I have my own suspicions as to how that would have been handled.

Political changes 'benefit terrorism' - Arab council AFP Wednesday, September 26, 2012 04:33:46 PM TUNIS - The political turmoil which has swept the Arab world has benefited "terrorism" and criminality, the Council of Arab Interior Ministers head, Mohamed Ben Ali Koumane, said on Wednesday. US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens was killed in an attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi. "The preachers of terrorism... have profited from the security deficit" in the region, Koumane said. "The spread of weapons and explosives has allowed terrorists to get hold of the tools of death and destruction." He was speaking at the start of a meeting of Arab security officials on the fight against terrorism, held at the Tunis headquarters of the council, which was set up in 1982 with the agreement of the Arab League. "Since last year, the Arab region has witnessed political changes that have resulted in acute security crises, directly linked to a rise in crime," Koumane said. "The deteriorating security situation has provided fertile ground for all sorts of crimes," he added, referring in particular to organised crime, illegal migration, and human and drug trafficking. A wave of violent attacks blamed on radical Islamists has afflicted a number of Arab countries in recent months, notably Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, where popular uprisings last year toppled long-time dictators. Earlier this month, protests against a US-made film mocking Islam turned violent, leading to attacks on several Western embassies and the killing of US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi, Libya. 213.158.162.45/~egyptian/index.php?action=news&id=27786&title=Political%20changes%20'benefit%20terrorism'%20-%20Arab%20council

US Embassy Warns Americans of Terror Alert in Egypt The US Embassy has warned American citizens in Cairo that terrorists are “targeting female missionaries in Egypt.” The US Embassy has warned American citizens in Cairo to remain alert and be aware the diplomatic mission has “credible information” terrorists are “targeting female missionaries in Egypt.” U.S. citizens were also told the “exercise vigilance, taking necessary precautions to maintain [their] personal security.” The warning, issued Friday, advised U.S. citizens to keep their travel documents handy and make sure they are valid. It also reminded Americans to monitor the updated travel warnings and alerts on the website of the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs. Last Friday, U.S. Representative Kay Granger (R-TX) vowed to block $450 million in U.S. foreign aid to Egypt in view of the unstable diplomatic relations between the two countries. Granger, chairwoman of the House Appropriations subcommittee on foreign operations that oversees foreign aid, said in a statement, “I am not convinced of the urgent need for this assistance and I cannot support it at this time.... I have placed a hold on these funds.” Earlier this year, Egypt arrested and placed on a travel ban list a group of Americans employed by two pro-democracy nonprofit organizations funded by the U.S. Government, shutting down both offices as well as 15 other similar groups. The International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) were both shut down in January by the Egyptian government in a sweep of non-governmental groups that receive funding from abroad. The son of U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Sam LaHood, was among the six, and was personally blocked from leaving the country. On the anniversary of the 2001 “9/11” Al Qaeda terror attack on America, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo was attacked by a screaming mob of thousands of Islamist protesters. The American flag was torn down from the building and replaced by one bearing Arabic writing. www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/161284#.UIm8JbxTLTS

Report: Rockets Fired from Egypt Hit Israel Two major Israeli newspapers are reporting that rockets fired from Egypt have hit Israel. "Terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula launched rockets into Israel Friday night," reports the Jerusalem Post. "The rockets fell near an Israeli village on the southern border, causing some damage, but no injuries." The Israeli daily Haaretz reports, "Rockets fired from direction of Egypt toward Eshkol Regional Council." It appears no damage was reported in connection with the rocket fire from Egypt. Earlier today, the Egyptian prime minister visited Gaza to express solidarity with the Palestinians there. This new front comes a day after a rocket landed near Tel Aviv and on the same day Israel's capital Jerusalem was the target of rocket fire. Those attacks were courtesy of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. "After Tel Aviv metropolitan area, capital under fire too: An air raid siren was sounded in Jerusalem and surrounding communities early Friday evening. After residents reported hearing blast sounds, security forces confirmed that one rocket had landed in the Gush Etzion area near a Palestinian village," Ynet reports. www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/report-rockets-fired-egypt-hit-israel_663502.html

Killing of 51 Egyptians triggers Islamist uprising call Fifty-one loyalists of Egypt’s ousted president were killed Monday while demonstrating against last week’s military coup, triggering an Islamist uprising call and dashing the army’s hopes for an interim civilian administration. The Muslim Brotherhood, which has led demonstrations against Wednesday’s overthrow of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, said its supporters were “massacred” by troops and police during dawn prayers in Cairo. The military blamed “terrorists” while witnesses, including Brotherhood supporters at the scene, said security forces fired only warning shots and tear gas. The witnesses said “thugs” in civilian clothes carried out the shootings. Condemnation poured in, with Germany expressing “shock” at the violence, Turkey calling it an attack on “humanity” and Brotherhood backer Qatar urging “self-restraint” and “unity”. The United States called on Egypt’s military to exercise “maximum restraint”. jordantimes.com/killing-of-51-egyptians-triggers-islamist-uprising-call
