**TWICE THE HERO**
Uniontown, Ohio; Uniontown Police Department
Captain Daniel 'Dan' Stiles
End Of Watch : 02-15-11
Captain Dan Stiles, 46, was struck and killed by a vehicle while while directing traffic. At 0752 hrs., Capt. Stiles, clad in his uniform and a bright orange reflective safety vest, was outside of his vehicle working a high...-traffic intersection known for crashes when he was struck. He was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries at 1040 hrs.
Born a natural Warrior, Dan not only served and sacrificed for the people of Ohio but he selflessly, with Honor, Courage and Commitment, gave his all to our beloved country while serving as a United States Marine. Born with a soul that had courage to wear the Badge, Daniel Stiles then began Saving, Serving and Protecting the People of Ohio when he became a Hartville Police Officer. Our Hero Brother spent more than 17 years with the department before coming to Uniontown where he was hired with the hopes of handing over the reins as Chief of Police. The citizens fell in love with this man and recognized his devotion which led to Officer Of The Year, 2010, just last month by the Lake Township Trustees. A well deserved commendation no doubt. Captain Stiles was out there protecting our children. The UPD was contracted by the school to direct bottle neck traffic twice a day to ensure their children were safe from the same harm that took our Brother's life.
His work came second only to his family. Captain Stiles kept himself in great physical and mental health by finding the right balance of family, fun and work. When not directing daily operations or out patrolling the streets of Uniontown, the Captain spent a great deal of time with his beloved bride and their two grade-school aged children. Dan loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing golf and baseball.
Captain and Marine, this man has shown us how to Live As Only A Hero Could and he will be greatly missed by so very many who have had the privilege and pleasure of knowing and working along side of him. We know he will be watching over his young family as we look after them from here. We will never let our Brother be forgotten.
Dan leaves behind his wife and their two young children. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Stiles family as well as to all the Men and Women of the Uniontown and Hartville PDs as well as to the Patriots of the United States Marine Corps.
Our Brother, we will forever be grateful for your devotion to us all that spanned more than half your life. We pray you continue your vigilant watch over as we carry on in the battle ... In Our Brother's Honor. We thank you for your service. Job Well Done, Sir.
Rest In Peace Captain Daniel 'Dan' Stiles ... We have the watch from here. SEMPER FI MARINE! SALUTE!
