I am seeking a steak sub on a roll that has the onions cut & cooked together with the meat. Preferably served on an oven-crisped roll with a choice of cheeses, the sandwich of my dreams seems out of reach in QA county.
Help!

Start at No Place, then judge all from there. Go at lunchtime though, not at 9:30pm on a Saturday night expecting a great one. If you haven't been there before, keep in mind, it's about the food.
Just to clarify.....a cheese-steak roll is not supposed to be toasted. At No Place order "with" or "without" fried onions, and you can get your choice of cheese there, should be "whiz" though. The only acceptable condiment is ketchup, and never any toppings.....especially green peppers. If you're a beer drinker, it's got to be a Yuengling.

Yeah, there's rules or at least if you are in Philly. I came across this little ordering tip.
A personal side note, I met my wife at a business meeting in Baltimore 20 years ago, she was born and raised in Philly. We hit it off and the next thing I knew I was driving to Philly one weekend.....um, you know, there's no distance to great when you're young and you think you are going to get lots of.........
One weekend I was there, we went to one of those corner cheesesteak places for lunch. She ordered first and then I ordered my cheesesteak. I got the question of with or without, I responded with mayo, lettuce, tomato..........it was something like out of a movie, dead silence came across the place with the guy just staring at me. I then looked at the future Mrs. and horror came across my face, thinking that I had drove all the way to philly for nothing.....I wasn't going to get fed or that other good stuff guys like. I learned my lesson real quick. At the end of it all, I now appreciate a good cheesesteak and I still like Yuengling beer, both I can still get when ever I want.....I wish I could say that for the other thing.
HOW TO ORDER A CHEESESTEAK IN PHILLY:When in Philly, expect your order-taker to have the manners of "The Soup Nazi". Be prepared when you place your order. Cheesesteak shops are not known for their patience and customer service. Act like you know what you're ordering, and don't hesitate while making your choices. Know your order BEFORE you approach the counter, and try and keep special requests to a minimum (but still make sure you get what you want). Ordering a cheesesteak can be traumatic in some places. So make your decisions, and be assertive. Some guys can smell a tourist a mile away. Act like you've been there a million times, talk Philly sports, and say "Yo" a lot to try and blend in with the natives. If the menu is numbered, use the number of your selection. And always specify whether or not you want fried onions by saying "Wit" or "Wit-out", this is the Philly way. If you are at Pat's or Geno's, and you want to try your steak with Cheez Whiz and onions, just say "Whiz, Wit"-- now that's the proper lingo!

I had one from the pizza place in Queenstown on Friday, though it was rather good. (And they broke the rules and toasted the roll lol)

We like Jeno's in Severna Park. It's across from Adams Ribs off McKinsey(sp?). Carini's on rt 8 is under new management and actually has a pretty good cheesesteak!

LOL... should I hit BBT and take out a loan first Deputy? Just be prepared. It's not a $5 foot long! (actually, about $12 for sub, fry, & drink)

That's understandable if it's good stuff Frank. Subway is a joke as far as having a good sub but works in a pinch. I don't expect prime rib at sirloin prices

OK, it's been a long time since I got thrown out of No Place... this discussion has made me crave... methinks I am headed there tonight (in disguise) for a Cheesesteak! Anybody who shows up there with a KIO nametag that I recognize, (anonymous does not count) gets a free beer from me! Best regards, BC
