None of you cook? Breakfast is about the easiest of any meals to make well. Frying potatoes is hardly an art. Tomc...the original post was saying that they had friends passing through town and they wanted to meet for breakfast somewhere...I don't think "making" breakfast was an option... I'm sure those friends are LONG gone by now, and the thread has certainly evolved into something entirely different. Pitching a fit and storming out because one doesn't like the potatoes? Seriously? Isn't that just a tad extreme? LOL!

Egg-xactly . Was looking for suggestions for place to meet someone I haven't seen for awhile that would be easy access for them off Route 50 as they head east. Thinking it will be Hilton Garden or Jetty depending on the weather that day. Really appreciate everyone chiming in.

Not going back because you don't like the potatoes seems reasonable to me. It ain't breakfast without the eggs and potatoes!! I also like Verna's taters.. if they changed them it would be a deal breaker for me.
Subject does also remind me that for some reason I always had heartburn from Holly's breakfast potatoes.. Don't know what they put on them but always heartburn for me. Fact is, I rarely go to Holly's for breakfast and that is the reason why.
Best breakfast in the area although a little east is the Diner in Easton.

I think telling a business why you are not happy and voting with your feet is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
Surprised you find this extreme

We also heard about Verna ,,,,,,,,, she may try No PLace lite wine and beer but with only 4 parking spaces who would want that nightmare. Verna and hubby are good people. Whatever she does I will support her 110%

We stopped by Ram's Head this morning. I went in and asked if they were making Verna's potatoes or the crappy deep fried with old bay on them. The waitress who knew us well, shook her head and said they are still making the deep fried one. I said that we won't be back anymore. She apologized and said she knew we like Verna's potatoes and always got a side order of them to go with what came with the breakfast and sorry to see us go since we were regulars there. We just turned around and left. So instead of calling the manager and telling him the problem, you chose to go in and make a scene - that poor waitress - not her fault...

Holly's is nice and very Eastern Shore. It's great just before a hunt in the fall. BUT Can't beat the seafood omelet of Rams Head and good coffee.
Cracker Barrel is well, all the same with crappy coffee.

Where do you people get off saying I made a scene? I know both breakfast waitresses very well, and we politely asked if they were still making the deep fried potatoes or had gone back to the skillet fried potatoes, because they said several people had complained about the change. We were just checking before we ordered or even sat down. She understood completely since she had waited on us ever since Verna started doing breakfast. We ate there so often that we could just walk in and they brought us our drinks and placed our orders without us having to tell them what we wanted. We were regulars, often more than once a week and both knew we got a side order of potatoes in addition to what came on with the breakfast, so they understood that it just wasn't the same. As for her potatoes being canned, there's nothing wrong with that, they are just pre-cooked so they can be cooked faster. In fact we can our potatoes so we can make our on skillet fried potatoes. I've just never seen skins on commercial canned potatoes and Verna's potatoes still had the skin on them.

There is a significant difference between "asked if they were making Verna's potatoes or the crappy deep fried" and "politely asked if they were still making the deep fried potatoes" as well as between "We just turned around and left" and "We were just checking before we ordered or even sat down." Tone doesn't come across well on the Internet. The words you chose in your first post didn't make it seem like a friendly conversation.

What doesn't come across on the internet forum, is the friendship that we had made with both waitresses over the years we ate there and how we joked around with each other. We bonded with these two women and they with us. We heard stories about their kids, boyfriends, etc and we shared stories of problems we had with raising our three kids also. I may have said crappy potatoes, I don't really remember, but these two would never take that as an insult if I did, in fact when we first had those potatoes, they were quick to say several people had complained about them and they hoped they would go back to Verna's style of potatoes.
If anything we will miss the friendship we formed with these two women. That was part of the fun of going there.
I can only hope that if Verna does open a new place at least one if not both of them will work for her. I know Effy worked for Verna when she and her husband had Island Inn, and Verna asked her to come back and work for her when she started doing the breakfast.

Too bad your great friendship with them was worth not seeing them over potatoes. Thinking there going to quit to go work at another breakfast place over potatoes come on. By the way Verna has denied to people she is going into No Place, the other rumor is she wanted to go in there but the county would only give her a beer and wine license and she said no way. It's all rumor and gossip and I would say don't believe any of it until you speak with Verna.
Verna also told the people at Rams Head that she missed working but after a short time her heart wasn't in it anymore. Wouldn't that be kind of crappy to open a breakfast place less than a mile away in direct competition with the people that paid you a ton of money for run down bar and restaurant, then pay you good money to come back and do breakfast and make it all about you. That doesn't sit well with me, karma is a Censored Bad Word Here.

No one has brought up Stu's? Probably because this is more of a to-go place but its really worth trying. They are located in the Friendly's Gas Station across the street from Western Auto.
If you are looking for a good to-go breakfast sammich made to order (scrapple, ham, bacon, sausage, whatever you like), I recommend these guys. I've only been twice and just discovered them this year.

We have been going to The Jetty for breakfast, nothing like having a tremendous breakfast and watching the tourist start to get hammered at 10AM!

My boyfriend and I were just having this discussion last weekend when we were there. Theres not alot of breakfast spots on the island. Rams Head is good, but theres a retchet old waitress that works there that we dont like encountering so we wont go on Sundays. Shes the older lady with the long grey and white hair-Elsie I think is her name. Idk why they keep her! Annies is awesome but pricey, thinks its $25 for the all you can eat buffet, but it wont disappointed its soo good! They also have a large menu to choose from as well. Hollys is closed now and cracker barrel is always a go to if its not a long wait time. The island could definitely use some more breakfast eateries and some other store fronts like tjmaxx marshalls ross etc. I do love the consignment shops though:)
