"I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes." - Barack Obama
We delayed the 'fiscal cliff', but my paycheck is down almost $75 for the new year. We make well under the $250,000 family threshold, but here it is anyway. That $150 a month would take us out to dinner several times, buy clothes or shoes, see a show or go to the movies. I guess local businesses will lose out again and Obama takes more of my hard-earned to piss away!

Any politician who claims taxes will never go up is either a fool or a liar.
This is one tax increase I can support just as long as it goes towards its designated purpose (funding Social Security). Everyone affected might some day benefit from the program. It is likely that everyone benefiting from the program will likely take out more than they put in.
On the other hand anyone who believes the politicians in DC will spend our money wisely and appropriately is a fool.

I do not support them jacking our checks even more to fund a failing system. Throwing more money onto a sinking ship isn't going to work, the holes need to be plugged.

On the other hand anyone who believes the politicians in DC will spend our money wisely and appropriately is a fool. The designated purpose, social security, had plenty of money in it. Our elected politicians John F Kennedy (D), Lyndon Johnson (D) saw this huge reserve of money and decided to put it to use in creating welfare as we know it today. Apparently, they didn't realize this was the working man's money set aside by our government for retirement. Now everyone is so concerned that the system is going broke. Well, our elected officials broke it, but the working class men and women will have bare the cost of wasteful politicians. It's no different with our new administration. It's a shame! www.usdebtclock.org/

Where's the love for Obama now? Where are all those supporters that voted 'Hope and Change' and 'Forward"? He clearly said no tax increase of any kind. Maybe he should have started with 'Read my lips'

Absolutely double! How DARE those old folks get their Social Security checks! Let the old folks starve! Did you back back to the Kool-Aid for seconds? Have you read any of the posts in this thread? Raising taxes is not the answer for reckless spending (especially when you campaign on not raising taxes). I was hoping for some explanation from some of our die-hard Dems on the forum, but I guess they're still outside scraping their Obama/Biden bumper stickers off their cars. I thought cash-for-clunkers got rid of most of those stickers!

Throwing more money on an already sinking boat without any plan to plug the holes to stop it from sinking seems like a great method...

Obama gave you a break on your social security tax for the last two years and this is how you thank him! You guys crack me up, he never raised the social security rate he only tried to help working folks out for a few years while the economy was in the tank and gas prices were thru the roof. With Republicans like ours, Andy Harris - he voted to go over the fiscal cliff - to raise everybodys taxes because he couldnt save the rich from tax increases. He is a cut your nose off to spite your face kinda guy. He voted against Sandy relief efforts because there were no budget cuts to fund it. And dont come back with the pork argument. The first senate bill did include 50 billion in pork, but that was not the bill Andy voted no on. Andy voted no on giving the money to FEMA to reimburse flood victims who are insured thru the National flood insurance program. Imagine that, your premiums for flood insurance get you nothing if Andy had his way. There was no pork in that bill as signed by the President. Your own congressman voted to raise your taxes thru the fiscal cliff and he voted to tell insured Sandy victims to pound sand, he didnt care.

If Obama did as he promised, I'd thank him.
No tax increase of any kind on families making less than $250,000 I'd say my check being $75 short due to the social security tax means my tax went up, not to mention 15% increase on my health premiums. They say it may have to be increased again due to Obamacare. Thanks Obama!
He said he would reduce the national deficit by 50% by the end of his first term. Well, his first term is set to end in less than two weeks. Doesn't look too good for him, although no one seems to be worried. He must have misspoke. This country has never been this buried in debt. I loved the part in the debate where Obama says to Romney "Governer, your math doesn't add up" Really Obama? Does reducing the national debt by adding $8,000,000,000,000 in a spending frenzy qualify as a 50% reduction? What a moron. Thanks Obama.
How about his clear and transparent government promise? fast and furious? Benghazi? Domestic spying? Obamacare? Solyndra? And on and on. Thanks Obama
How about the rising price of all goods including the price of gasoline doubling during his presidency while he has my pay has remained frozen for the last two years? I didn't cause this mess, I just warned you it was coming, but you were too busy saying "Yes I can". Thanks Obama.
However, since you only seem concerned about Andy Harris. So, when election time comes around, don't vote for him.

Absolutely double! How DARE those old folks get their Social Security checks! Let the old folks starve! My thing is the extension of UnEmployment bene to 2 years and the extenion again within the fiscal cliff package. Thus the anchor dragging behind the ship. Oh, and SS has all of what 6 years before insolvency.

Oh Frank,
You dont seem to get it. Obama did NOT raise your social security taxes. What was the Social security withholding rate when Obama took office? 6.2% What is the social security withholding rate today? 6.2% The man gave you a break the last two years and you still complain about him. And I would never vote for Andy, he is too far right for me. I guess that must be why you dont care that he voted to raise your taxes in his fiscal cliff vote. I would prefer a more moderate common sense candidate of any party to Andy.

I get it. Obama said none of my taxes would go up, but they did. Plain and simple. You know if Bush did this, there would be rioting in the streets. Why is Obama held to a lesser standard? Because he's a moron? That's not good enough.
Common sense says you can't spend more than you make. There are no more common sense politicians in this country. Nobody works for the good of the people as a whole anymore. I'd like to say if you can't do the right thing, we'll vote someone in that can, but there are no good, common sense candidates anymore.

So, Grova you are happy with the Government hitting middle class America once again with a decrease in take home pay? How does a family budget for a sudden $5K a year loss in net pay?
Real numbers.

The lack of education on this site is pretty bad. Our taxes did not go up. The "Temporary" Payroll Tax expired. Instead of blaming the President, blame the party that shanked them as part of the negotiations. Peel away from Faux New for 10 minutes and get with the real world.

Which of these statements sounds better: - 6.2-4.2=0
- It's not a tax increase, it's a return to the higher taxes of
four (?) two years ago.
- It's not a pay cut, it's a return to the lower pay of
four (?) two years ago.
- "Read my lips, no new taxes"... we're just going to increase existing taxes.
- We said no taxes: it's not a tax, it's a fee.
When the President was campaigning he promised that taxes would not increase for anyone earning less than $250,000 dollars. He could say that because he was proposing to increase taxes only on those earning more than $250,000. (Makes a lot of sense, very logical). It is interesting then that when Obama wanted to raise taxes on high earners he was going to do that by allowing a temporary tax cut to expire. Yet, now that the temporary payroll tax cut has expired there are strong arguments from the more educated among us that this is absolutely not a tax increase. It can't be both ways, either the expiration of a temporary tax cut is a tax increase or it is not. This tax increase (or expiration of a temporary tax cut) will most definitely cost families making less than $250,000 up to $5,000 $4548 per year. Down-sized, right-sized, or laid-off: the term doesn't really matter to the guy who no longer has a job. Tax increase or expiration of a temporary tax cut: the term doesn't really matter to the guy who no longer has the money in his paycheck. (And all of the above from a person who actually supports the 6.2% rate)

You left wingers can call it what you want, temporary, sunset, not an increase.. Heck make up some more names.....
My paycheck was short and the a-holeys in DC caused it. I think it's a shame I only have ONE vote on election day
Can we not allow people COLLECTING A CHECK FROM THE GOVERNMENT to vote? I think it's conflict of interest
