Anyone have an opinion about if and when Maryland will legalize the use of Marijuana in Maryland? I was thinking R's could be a good stopping point for people heading to the beach. I bet it would be a cash cow for QAC and could provide a lot of f tax dollars that could go towards the schools.

So would I, and I've never nor do I ever intend to use it.
Criminalizing it is a waste of time.

^ That is a big part of it for me.
Prohibition doesn't work. It wastes money and creates jobs for criminals.

Or maybe it's just bad people doing bad things, regardless of the substance they're on? True. I was actually being sarcastic in my response. I might be young but in 8 years as a career medic I think I can count on one hand how many times I've ran into someone who did something bad or was hurt as a result of only weed. I have seen hundreds of people who were drunk that have assaulted one another, crashed cars, assaulted my partners, assaulted myself while under the influence of alcohol. Something I find odd about our society is that we are 100% ok with Alcohol and all the destruction it causes but people are against weed?

I have no dog in this fight, but I think the anti-weed mentality has been fed for years by the association with other drug use.. and the belief that smoking pot leads to other drugs. ?? Agree that it is puzzling why we coddle the drunks and their mayhem..

I cannot inhale the stuff otherwise I might imbibe once in a while. I have been to Amsterdam several time on business and tried a piece of "Space Cake". Grass is legal there and there are shops that sell it in many forms. The biggest chain of Ganja Shops is called Grasshopper (there is a Grasshopper #1, #2, etc.). I know many people locally that smoke it regularly. My 40 year old neighbors as well friends that are in there 60's right here in River City smoke it regularly. Medical marijuana is legal in Delaware and DC. I do not believe that marijuana is an entry drug that was attempted to be sold to us back in the day. I am almost 70 and if I wanted to buy some grass I could do so from several local sources. I believe that pot is much less damaging physically then booze. The grass that is available today is much more potent then a decade ago so you do not have to smoke much, which is probably better for your lungs. You can cook with it and it is probably less harmful. I say legalize and tax it. Think about the removal of all the load with the legal system as well as the folks that are incarcerated for non violent marijuana violations. Have regulations and a way to measure someone who is under the influence and not capable of driving. Think of all the domestic abuse that is caused by alcohol. Someone on grass does not get violent and usually becomes mellow. When someone drives after smoking grass they usually drive too slow or wait for traffic lights to cycle through a few time before they proceed down the road. Grass is great for the snack sales economy. Legalize it and it help solve our economic issues. Legalize it and we would save millions from not incarcerating non violent folks. It is readily available now and it increases the bad guy population and the crime world. If it was regulated and taxed by the State it could be not sold to minors and the quality could be controlled. No one is ever going to beat it as far as eradicating it and it a complete waste of $ to attempt to do so. I know how much damage alcohol has caused the world. I have lost family and friends to alcohol. I do not believe any of them would be gone if they substituted grass for booze. I saw a program on TV that said 70% of grass came from South of the Border. Think about putting them out of business and all the violence that would alleviated.

Legalizing pot is asking for trouble and cell phone, alcohol and pot? You think people drive bad now! Try living in the now its such a great time!

I bet people who smoke pot already drive after, during and before smoking. People should not drive after smoking pot but legalizing will not change that just like alcohol. Even though it is legal to drink, people still drive after drinking. The only reasonable excuse I have heard but not sure if it is true is that pot leads to use of more powerful and more harmful drugs. I doubt it but I do not know the science behind that.

I've heard some lame arguments against legalization, but that is one of the worst.
As if, once legal, everyone will suddenly start driving while high.
Why don't they do that now, with legal alcohol? Sure, officers make DUI arrests now, but it isn't a pandemic.
If you want to do something about bad drivers, make the test harder, not the list of legal inebriating substances smaller.

I disagree that smoking pot leads to harder drugs. I know to many long time pot smokers who have never used anything other than pot for many years. Many of them are professional persons who have worked hard their whole lives and have successful careers and great families, They dont' advertise that they smoke pot they don't deal it,,,, and etc. etc. etc. Some of these very successful peoples are laywyer, doctors, firemen, police man, builders, etc. JMO

Decriminalize....just doing that will save us Billions....we currently spend $32 Billion dollars a year on incarceration. Most of which are folks who got caught with minor amounts. Don't get me wrong....if you "need" to be there that's fine but minor offenders locked away for life is crazy. Certain States have laws/3 strikes that will put you away forever. Stupid. Good luck on changing it though...Unfortunately we've turned our prison systems into privatized businesses and the millions of lobbyist dollars will make it hard to change. Just an FYI... Drug War begins and incarceration rates... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:US_incarceration_timeline-clean.svgEdit: maybe this link will work... Drug War starts and see what happens with number of people being locked away... upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/54/US_incarceration_timeline-clean.svg
