We really need your help to bring in a big name which will bring in big bucks! Every dollar counts.

Judging by the sewer "discussion", it doesn't seem that folks, moderators especially, around here care much about the health of the Bay.

What does this have to do with the sewer or the health of the Bay?

What does this have to do with the sewer or the health of the Bay? Rich's Island Bay Day was originally set up to raise awareness and funds for the Bay's ecological good. It does seem to have lost most "charitable" causes, with only a small blurb about Make a Wish and the American Legion.

It was set up to raise money for different charities. This year it is for Make A Wish. What is wrong with him and the other volunteers spreading the donation around?

Each year Island Bay Day chooses different charities to give to - but always with a local focus, (sometimes local being Mid-Atlantic or DelMarVa areas ) while the first IBD could have been for the benefit of a Bay-focused charity, I do know that since year 2 he has worked very hard to make sure to give the most to as many as possible. We have worked with ARF, Chesapeake Cats and Dogs, The Wounded Warrior Project, The American Legion, The Make-A-Wish Foundation and several others.

Reading the above, and having been a part of the first couple of IBDs, and having watched the video I have to ask: What color is the sky in your world?

The very first "Island Bay Day" that was in the parking lot behind "Luke's Grille" in Stevensville was supposed to benefit the Chesapeake Bay Trust. The Trust was supposed to send us volunteers and have their info and "stuff" on-site. They never showed up. We have always went with charities who were grateful and helpful after that. The 3rd Island Bay Day was at CBEC in Grasonville and benefitted the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center. Unfortunately it rained monsoon-style on us and the road to CBEC flooded out. It was a fun party for us who were stranded on our own little island back there, but the donation wasn't big. They still appreciated it and were very helpful. Since then, we have benefitted a bunch of charities, but it was never meant to be specifically focused to any one charity. The name "Island Bay Day" was really just a place holder - I worked at "100.7 The Bay" and we were on KI with a music fest. We just never changed the name, although we were pushing "Rock The Shore", which never took hold. "100.7 The Bay" didn't work out and I don't work there anymore, and we have been on and off Kent Island - But the name remains... This year we are still calling is "Island Bay Day", since we're a known entity of sorts, but focusing on "Rocktoberfest", which should have been the name to start. We are adding a craft / micro-brew section, so now it's a beer-fest and music fest in October...so "Rocktoberfest" really makes sense. Last year we spent too much money on big name bands, and it didn't seem to matter. Ticket prices were too high as a result of costs, and we didn't have much else to do other than watch the bands. This year it's all about BEER and the best of the best regional acts, a techno / DJ area for dancing, lots of interesting vendors, and hopefully a big name to cap it off. The lineup that is taking shape even without a huge name is still really good. It's something VERY different than we have ever done before and designed to broaden our audience. We'll see if the community supports what we do by the donations that we bring in... I'm hopeful. If you have a business and would like exposure - Sponsor Island Bay Day's "Rocktoberfest" and we will get your name in front of thousands of potential customers on Kent Island Online & CentrevilleMaryland.us (over 30,000 monthly visitors), the Island Bay Day "Facebook" page (5000 people), the KIO "Facebook" page (close to 4000 people), and the Twitter accounts for KIO and IBD.
