My elderly next door neighbor is looking to upgrade his porch (sound like he wants to do the vinyl thing). My go-to-guy for home improvements has become increasingly unreliable over time so I can't recommend him in good faith. Anyone got any good recommendations for some local companies? We just got an advertisement in the mail from Bay Porches, but I don't know anything about their reputation, but it looked like something they could handle. Anyone here got any recommendations that I can pass along?

Local kid. Currently replacing a roof and siding on my house. Does great work, very detail oriented. Every day I come home from work, "Mr Frank, I need you to take a look at this, Mr Frank, I need you to look at that". I know every single item that was replaced (not that I needed to see every item). Seems to be very honest in his work.

Larry McCabe is an excellent carpenter and just did my neighbors porch in vinyl and trex (or similar) along with a new front door. I know he is reliable from previous experiences with him. I am also going to have him do my new front porch this fall. 410-643-1835

Julie, the blonde, was getting pretty desperate for money. She decided to go to the nicer, richer neighborhoods around town and look for odd jobs as a handy woman. The first house she came to, a man answered the door and told Julie, "Yeah, I have a job for you. How would you like to paint the porch?" "Sure, that sounds great!" said Julie. "Well, how much do you want me to pay you?" asked the man. "Is fifty bucks all right?" Julie asked. "Yeah, great. You'll find the paint and ladders you'll need in the garage." The man went back into his house to his wife who had been listening. "Fifty bucks! Does she know the porch goes all the way around the house?" asked the wife. "Well, she must, she was standing right on it!" her husband replied. About 45 minutes later, Julie knocked on the door. "I'm all finished," she told the surprised homeowner. The man was amazed. "You painted the whole porch?" "Yeah," Julie replied, "I even had some paint left, so I put on two coats!" The man reached into his wallet to pay Julie.
"Oh, and by the way," said Julie, "That's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."

Still funny:
Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with that expensive double-pane energy efficient kind, and today, I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the work had been completed a whole year ago and I still hadn't paid for them.
Helllooooo? Just because I'm blonde doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid. So, I told him just what his fast talking sales guy had told me last year, that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves! Helllooooo? It's been a year, I told him.
There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally just hung up. He never called back. Guess I won that stupid argument. I bet he felt like an idiot.
