How much of a pay cut would take if you did not have to drive across the bay bridge to get to work?

Sadly I can't make nearly the money that I did in Chevy Chase as If I were to find a similar position over here with longer hours. However the cost of living here in considerably less that buying a home in Montgomery County. It all works out economically, at least for me.

I took a significant pay cut to come over here from Annapolis, but worked really hard for 2 years and am now making the same as I was on the western shore. The cut was worth it to me. I am home from work in 2 minutes, I am saving big bucks on gas, and not to mention the stress of sitting in traffic!!!

I make at least double in DC what I could make on the ES. I do that because I need the money to maintain status quo, not to mention one in college, and one getting married. I have a rider which allows me to use the HOV lane and we split gas, but the wear and tear on the car, and the extra time away from home is tough. With the price of food rising, fuel rising, utilities rising, it's hard to take a cut in pay right now.

If it was anywhere within a 1/2 hour of the house on the Eastern Shore, I'd give up some big bucks. It takes me 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 hours each way now to Northern Va. To save an hour commute each way would be 10 hours a week not on the road - that's worth big bucks and peace of mind.

Unfortunately it seems as if anything in my field is on the Western Shore and beyond!

It would depend on the total package: similar job, shorter commute, benefits, etc. I would be willing to take a significant pay cut to have a 15 minute commute. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon.
