The police can help curtail it a bit, but this kind of crime is a direct result of bad parenting from the wrong kind of people that are starting to come over here. It seems to be a trend in Maryland for large groups of people to go from county to county ruining it and moving on. Again, bad parenting. It's not the schools, the cops, the neighbors, it's you (the county hoppers). With the zillion cable channels, the internet, hip-hop, cell phones, etc... there is a lot of things that need to be policed by parents now-a-days. Too much access to violence and pornography for kids these days and parents are clueless.

I have 2 kids of my own. I have 10 kids that come to my house everynight to hangout. They come to my house because I will spend time with them and their parents don't. My son is 8 years old and has kids that are 6 to 19 that come to play at our house. My belief is these kids don't get the attention they need at home or the support to mature the way kids in my day did. So when I see news about kids abducted and gone bad it's reaching out to the adults in their lives to be involved with them. Sorry to say maybe people are spending more time commuting to be in a good area then spending qaulity time with their kids. No offense to the parents out there but talking to kids on an inteligent level and not talking down to them and remembering your own childhood fears and feelings would help. Remember talking to your grand parents, how different their upbringing? the world changes as we let it. All kids are what their parents make them. Take responsability and do your best.

Agreed. Parents out there - take time to care.
And, if your neighbor doesn't take time to care about their own kids, reach out. It is the best thing we all can do for each other. How much time does it really take to toss a football with a kid?
Although this is the probably the most hated quote on this board, it does make sense:
"It takes a village to raise a child."
... or something like that.
BTW - I hear that the Character Counts program is always looking for volunteers.

I know this is an old topic but I had to comment. What the Bay Times did report was not correct. The 16 year old was actually just going to talk to the boy about something that was posted on "My Space". Due to gang aspirations the kid from Howard County and the Richardson boy felt they needed to be with thier "Bro" and they were the ones who actually committed the crimes. Sad thing is the girl did not have any involvement until after the crime was commited and all she did was give a ride to the Richardson Boy and the Howard County boy. Both have already gone to court and they were only charged with assualt. the Howard County boy went home to his mother still on house arrest and the Richardson boy was returned to Juvie Hall where he was kept until the trial. I have not heard what happened to the Dabbondanza boy. The boy who was 12 years old was a friend of Dabbondanza and also the victim and his court date is tomorrow. This I am sure is a lesson learned about being in the wrong place at the wrong time and hanging out with the wrong people.

There's more crime than you think. All you need to do is listen to a police scanner. This past summer there was a call for a stabbing in the Love Point Park area and it never appeared in the Bay Times. They seem to be very selective about what they print.

All I know is that I'm glad the State Police are still handling all kind of calls and not just traffic stops around here. I am not saying that they are perfect but I have noticed that the big cases like these and one with the child molester that was a substitute teacher at a school here on kent island and other serious stuff was handled by them. Good job Troopers, keep it up!

I also am glad about the Trooper's involvement. I wish they would arrest people who drive unlicensed, unregistered and uninsured vehicles instead of just letting them go to commit yet another offense. Trust me there is a person who had an unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured vehicle and then let an unlicensed driver get behind the wheel and they wrecked almost killing a child who was just there because his friend who was 16 was having problems at home and needed someone to talk to and when the ADULT 42 year old MAN asked the girl to drive to the store the 12 year old got in the van and made a bad decision to "just ride to the store". This happened in September and yet when I look on the Maryland Judiary Site the adult was caught yet again in December with another vehicle on the Bay Bridge without proper licence, tags and oh by the way...no insurance. No charges ever came from his van being involved in the accident and since nobody had insurance the family of the 12 year old was liable for all medical expenses for the child which are still ongoing. Yet the man can go out and get another vehicle and do the same thing??? I do not think it is the Troopers that are to blame I think it is the court system. They let the "good ole boys go". This is the same adult who has a farm that teens can go and hang out on, skip school, drugs are plentiful and yet again nothing happens to this adult...Cops come out and the courts let him go.

Seems to me all I ever see the State Troopers doing around here is writing tickets. Twenty years ago State Police took care of just about everything in QAC. Now with the county pd getting so big, they have returned to their primary duty of revenue collectors.

I disagree somewhat, Seatbelt tickets=Revenue makers As far as I'm concerned they can't write enough speeding tickets. People are WHACKED around here. See the driving thread.
