I have always loved kent island for the reason that I feel that my things and myself, for the most part, are safe. But thursday night/friday morning, my neighbor and good friend of mine had his car stolen from right out infront of his house. It was an acura integra with a few nice parts on it. I personally have a acura integra aswell and luckly did not have it at my home that night. I never would have imagined this to happen right in my neighborhood. It was part of a larger operation in which hondas, mostly the integra model are being stolen, stripped, and then dummped in pg county a few days later. Anther good friend of mine had his type-r integra stolen from arundel mills mall two weeks ago and then dumped in pg county. Its sad that we work so hard to pay for these cars and put so mush time in them only to have them taken away. Bottom line is that Kent island is no longer as safe as i once thought it to be.

I'm sure the ground that Kent Island is composed of is safe, I don't know of any radiological dumps in the area so I'm sure it's safe. Now when it comes to the towns of Stevensville and Chester not being safe, look at the many many section 8 housing projects and the fact people think of the Eastern Shore as "country" they know we are laid back here. And as far a car being stolen from Arundel Mills, are you surprised? That place had potential but they catered to a certain group and made it a mecca of crime. Thanks!

Well no i am not suprised at the car being stolen from arundel mills, about 10 cars a month are stolen from there. What i am getting at is that i rarely lock the doors on my car and i know some people that still dont lock the doors to their house and maybe they should rethink that. Just thought i would share my story.

crime exists everywhere, more than others, and yes it does suck that this used to be a place where you could leave your doors unlocked. But with development comes more population (usually from the not so great areas), and with more population comes more crime. development is the key word here!!!!

NEK! Perhaps it is time for people who live on Kent Island as well as reside in Queen Anne's County to take there heads out of the ass (back side) and wake up to reality. I don't know what fantasy zone most of the residents in the County are living in. It amazes me of the mentality of people who live in the county that think they are moving to Yuk Yuk Mayberry. People must be smoking crack to still leave there car doors unlocked or there house door for that matter unlocked. Kent Island is a safe place to live and there is hardly any violent crime in the county, however there is a high amount of property crimes. Meaning, thefts, vandalisim's, burglaries, etc. For all you western shore chicken neckers wake up and stop thinking your in Mayberry. For all you old time residents born on the good old eastern shore. You too, wake up cause the good old eastern shore is not what it used to be. Lock your crap up. Lock your car doors, lock your houses up. Don't be an easy target for the criminals. This is not rocket science people. As for all the people who complain about the drug problem in the county. Go live in Baltimore and tell me how bad the drugs are here. Sure the county has drugs. What the hell county doesn't have drugs? Calling the police is not going to solve the drug problem. You are never going to solve the drug problem and it's not the fault of our police. The war on drugs have been raging on since the 1980's back when Reagan was in Office and the war on drugs will be going on in the year 2080. Wake up people!

Speaking of crime, this happened 9 days ago. It wasn't in the "Bay Times."
Teens Arrested On The Eastern Shore Tuesday, January 09, 2007 WBAL Radio and The Associated Press
State Police have arrested five teenagers in connection with the assault and armed robbery of a 12-year-old boy behind Kent Island High School.
The boy told police Saturday night he was hit and kicked in the chest and head. One of the suspects is accused of holding a knife to the boy's neck. Police say the assailants took the boy's cell phone and his A-T-M card.
Two of the suspects are charged as adults -- 18-year-old Sarah Murphy and 16-year-old Brandon Dabbondanza -- both of Stevensville. The other suspects are two 15-year-olds and a 12-year-old.
The suspects are charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, first- and second-degree assault, conspiracy, reckless endangerment, theft and carrying a deadly weapon.

That is very disturbing! I don't have kids of my own and it's things like this (among other things) that helped make that decision. However, I do have two stepdaughters that live in Cloverfields and I fear for what lies in their future.

Like I had said before people. For those of you who think Kent Island is completely crime free and Mayberry then you might want to get a clue and wake up to reality. Please dont' misunderstand me. me and my family have been a long time resident of Queen Anne's County and love it. In the whole sceme of things Queen Anne's County is a safe place to raise a family, however there are some violent criminals that are in the county. Every place in the world has some form of crime and we don't live in Leave It To Beaver Land. I would also like to commend the excellant job that the sheriff deputies did in catching the person's responsible for all the spray painting, stolen cars and broken mailboxes in the Chester and Grasonville area. Citizens of the county get your heads out of your back sides and wake up to the real fact that crime has been here for years in the county and it is going to stay there. More reason to make sure were paying our police deputies the salaries they well deserve so they don't leave to another county.

Yeah, an 18 year old chick with a knife and four of her friends to rob a 12 year old boy! I guess they needed the knife because the five of them felt a little threatened by the 12 year old!

Yeah I hear ya Frank - that was a pretty intelligent response by Highlander73. I guess if Highlander73 was attacked by five adults, one with a knife, he would have easily fought his way out of it

Highlander - could be either one depending on who's opinion it is; I could see it as a joke if the boy got beatup by the girl in a playground fight. Unfortunately, in this case the kid had a knife put to his throat.
Bottom line -hopefully the courts take the appropriate action, especially with the 18 year old.

This is why I'm for capital punishment. Hang them now because the 16 year old will only get worse. The 12 year old will live with this for a very long time.

Sorry, it was a quote from a movie I've long since forgotten. Obviously the crime and the escalation of crime in the community is not funny, though I'm still awfully confused about the circumstances (12 yr olds getting robbed by 18 yr olds?).

Highlander73 - don't know the movie so didn't understand the humor in it - sounds like we're all in agreement that the crime issue needs to be addressed. I think in this case, it might be another example of parents not paying attention to what their kids are up to, or who knows, no discipline in the house to start with.

I guess I must have missed that movie too.
I would think any 18 year old knows the penalty for messing with a minor! Always bad news. I hope the judge doesn't blow this off as juvenile horseplay. If a stiff penalty is imposed, others will take notice! Make those kids accountable for what they did. Just my thoughts.

Unfortunately our County's police department is headed up by a popularity contest and not experience . More to come in the way of crime I'm sure not only on Kent Island but our whole county.
