How do you think the current county commissioners are doing? Cupani, Smith, Cassell, Ransom and Koval?

It seems like Cupani, Smith and Cassell are for growth and Ransom and Koval are against growth. I think that we need growth here, but not at the planned rate. It seems like they all are not doing such a great job because things seems to be spiraling out of control with housing additions, but needed businesses are not being built. My guess is that they will all be voted out in the next election. I would like to see the townhomes and condos be limited, while things like movie theatres should be built.

Agreed, Ransom seems like the only one who tells it the way it is. I don't always agree with him but would like to see him remain. We need growth but more upscale and more business. We need to clean up the junk. I am for the 4 Seasons project but with more control. I think this will help the island and force more business opportunity's

While I'll agree that commercial growth has remained stifled, I have to respectively disagree with the assessment that these commissioners have not done enough to control residential growth. The idea that residential growth is spiraling out of control is a myth. Do you realize that for the past three years, the county has issued fewer building permits for residential units that at any time since the early 1980's? The following statistics reflect the total yearly number of Queen Anne’s County Planning Commission approvals granted for residential building on Kent Island from year 2001 – 2004 (as of 9/27/04)
Year Units 2001 - 13
2002 - 0
2003 - 17
2004 - 0 Total - 30
You have to remember that these Commissioner's inherited the Four Season's project as well as any other larger subdivision that may or may not eventually make it through the process.
I'm not saying all of this as an apologist for the current Commissioners but I have do have to say that if you wanted a set of Commissioners to clamp down on growth, this set has been very good to you.
My opinion is we need sensible growth, both commercial and residential. And as for the current Commissioner's my opinion is that we should keep Cassell and Smith, dismiss Koval and Cupani. The verdict is still out on Ransom.

I agree with the last email except that Ransom will tell you what you want to hear and do otherwise. He wants to use this position to climb the political career-ral fast. Cassell and Smith got the real key to issues. It took a while but they got it. Too bad, the residents didn't see we had it good with the last set of commissioners.
