I have taken my children there many times to play and they really have fun. My daughters pre-k class also goes there for play time once a week. I have never noticed any tiles falling down but I will ask my daycare lady about it.
Please understand that there place is run on almost a 0 budget because it does not bring in enough money. If you have ever met the lady who runs the place you will know she is a real sweetheart and she loves children. From what I've been told by other mothers is that the place is run mostly by volunteers. I've also heard that she is trying to turn the place into a non-profit since she doesn't make any money off of the place.
I am not affiliated with the Secret Garden and everything I know is all second-hand; however, I do know the lady who runs the place deeply cares about children. I'm sure if she is made aware of a problem that she would fix it.
Also, please understand $5 is not a bad price to bring your kids and let them blow off some steam with some friends. I've never thought twice about paying the money. If you want someplace elaborate for your kids to play, you might want to try EXPOS in Dover, it is nice but you will pay about $12 a kid.

I have no affiliation with Island Secret Garden.
I understand your concerns. But consider the area..there is absolutely no where during the winter months or rainy days for kids to go and run around. And like another mom pointed out this place DOES run on a $0 budget that is staffed by volunteer mothers. Additionally while it's not one of the fancy indoor places you pay big bucks to get into..its not the dump that has been described. It could use some repairs but I wouldn't characterise the place as dangerous..not more so than any playground. If you want to do something to help find a way to raise funds instead complaining about the problems. Then you will have truely done some good for the kids of the area. I have taken my daughter there a handful of times but wish I would have utilized it more. My daughter is nearly 3 and loves the place, I only wish I had the time when she can't get outside to take her there more.
Of course if your want a guarantee your child won't get hurt, put them in a bubble for the rest of their life!

I don't have little kids, but I might have grandchildren one day......
What's to stop all the people who utilize this place from coming together....working together and making this little place better for all??? If this is something that benefits the community, then why doesn't the community work together to solve some of these issues?
Maybe I am missing something here..., but if this a place where children go to.....you would think that it would have to pass certain city and or county codes in order to be operational.
I haven't been there...so my opinion is pretty much not important enough to post.....
But it seems to me if this is a worthwhile enterprise...then those that use it should be willing to help make it better.... But then again...we do live in a world of "it's not my problem" and or "someone else will do it".
Just my uninformed opinion here........

It's a great idea but it's not been executed properly. The place should be safe first and foremost. There is a gym for kids in the area and it's fantastic. It's clean, safe and done properly. I take my kids there if they need a break from running around two acres of heaven.

Brooke, The place is not what you are making it out to be. My kids love the place and so do many other mothers' children. No its not the fanciest of places and it does have issues; however if there is ever any safety issues the owner or the VOLUNTEERS take care of it. My friends and I are all very protective mothers and would never let our children play in any place that we honestly felt that they were in any harms way.
I've read all of your other posts in this thread. Do you know the owner and have something against her, or are you just trying to ruin her business?

I don't Lynn.. Are you the owner, or do you know the owner? And are you just trying to protect yours, or hers, or his business interests? Inquiring minds want to know.

No, I'm not the owner. I've met her and I like her. I've also met many of the ladies who volunteer there. The one thing I know for sure... they all care about the children and would never let something remain in an unsafe manner.
This is not some big money maker business. The place runs on practically no budget and (from what I hear) often doesn't make enough to cover the expenses. The place remains in existance because the lady who runs the place loves children. The place is volunteered and attended all by people who love children.
Again, it isn't a fancy operation and repairs do need made, but whats been posted about the place being dangerous for children is completely unfair.
Just as anyone else speaking out against this place, I have every right to say my opinion. I think it is a nice place for children and I think its been getting an unfair reputation.

Lynn, I have nothing against the place or the owner. I don't even know her. The place has broken toys, open electrical sockets, ceiling tiles hanging down and broken lights. I understand the owner is running it on a budget but it has to be safe. The next to you go, really look around. I have socket plugs on all of my electrical plugs in my home. That is the least they can do. This isn't about the owner, it's about the safety of kids.
