I was in Happy Harry's the other day and was talking with the manager. It seems that Walgreen has bought the empty lot at the corner of 18 and 552 in Chester and that's where they will be moving. THAT WILL BE 3 DRUG STORES at that busy intersection. He wasn't pleased with their decision and he told corporate that it would be better to stay on the west end of the island, but they said all their research showed that to be the best place. I believe Walgreen's like to have their own store as does CVS and Rite-Aid. There's probably a lack of a location to put a store on the west end of the island.
I don't know who they have doing there research, but it must be one of the grade school students. The west side of the island has some of the largest housing developments on the island. Cloverfields, Bay City, Kent Island Estates, not to mention all the other developments up and down route 8. The only thing we will have left that somewhat resembles a Drug Store will be Martha-Mart (K-Mart), and they don't have a drive through. When I'm sick and need to pickup a prescription, I sure don't feel like walking in K-Mart and standing in line to get my medicine.
I can't believe the county would let another business with high traffic volume build on that intersection, let alone have 5 drug stores on that one end of the island, that's counting Safeway.
Thanks County Commissioners and planning and zoning for looking out for us!!

I agree, but I think they like their own building built from scratch. They don't normally like to retrofit into an existing building. I know that doesn't matter, but it is what the business guys think.

Why do the Comishs' allow drug stores, boat dealers etc to be built but not chair restaurants? I am so glad I don't work/live around Stevensville/Chester

I don't get it at all. Basically, by approving a Walgreens on that corner, plus the existing Rite-Aid, that will mean that the local drug store that has been on that corner forever will probably be forced under. Maybe when that guy folds they can open up another bank there - we surely don't have enough banks here either
