Can anyone recommend a good vet that has a lot of experience with LARGE breed dogs?
Thanks.

I've used Chesaepeake Veterinary for the past 5 1/2 years - (410)643-3101. There are four vets in the practice but I prefer to see Dr. Jennifer Russell. She and Dr. Marian Shaw have been there the longest. Dr. Shaw breeds (I think) and shows Labrador Retrievers.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, I will check them all out. We use Bay Area Vets for our cats, but want to make sure we get a vet that really understands large breeds for the puppy we are getting next month.

We take our dogs to Dr. Hammer in Queenstown. He's a great guy, and is very good with large dogs. Just had one of our Danes there last week, and he let her sit on his knee during the exam (her back end doesn't work like it used to... so she likes to sit - ON something or someone).
[edit:] Rather than buying a puppy, why not adopt a dog? There are some great recues out there FULL of unwanted dogs that just need a home.

Melissa - as does Falgar, I highly recommend Dr. Van Horn with Convenient Care (410-643-7565). She actually is a mobile vet with a van that contains everything she needs and will make house calls for just a few bucks more than having to take your dog in to a facility. She has worked wonders with our 90 lb. lab. He can be stubborn at times, but when she pulls up, he jumps right in the van. She also has an assistant with her (Frank) that treats the dog like his own.
She is an excellent vet!

Having a mobile vet does appeal to me, especially since our dog will eventually be upwards of 160 pounds. If she were to get sick, we would have a great deal of difficulty carrying her and getting her in one of our trucks. To Matt: Socializing a grown dog with my two cats would be more of a challenge than I am willing to take on. Puppies are much easier to introduce. Also, we have our hearts set, and have been on a VERY long waiting list for this particular breed of dog. I am all for adoption/rescue, that is how we aquired our cats.
