We'll be in Stevensville in June with our dog. Are there any great places where lots of dog congregate and play off leash?
Thanks!

There are no off leash dog parks around. The closest is in Arnold at Broadneck Park.
If your dogs are trained I am sure you can let the run on the beach at Terrapin park... but someone might have issues if they are around, who knows.

Thanks, Mike. That's too bad. I called Terrapin Park because their site says no dogs, but the pics show a couple walking a Golden Retriever. I told them that photo is deceiving, but they could have cared less.

Since the subject of Dogs came up I'd just like to stand up on a Soap Box for a moment. Since spring is coming and I have had a preview with the last 2 warm days of the rampant dog barking going on in Cloverfields and I'm sure in other neighborhoods on the " The Island "
PLEASE be considerate of your neighbors and your dog(s), NO ONE wants to hear your dog barking all day or even for 5-10 solid minutes. Please do not let your dog out in the morning to BARK while you take a shower, other people are not in the shower they are still sleeping, including babies, small children, people who work night shifts etc. and YES YOUR dogs barking does wake them up. Just because it's warm outside do not think that leaving your dog outside all day or for even 5-10 minutes to bark is a okay thing. You might not care because your at work or come home and have to make dinner or whatever, but once again there are people who do stay home all day for whatever reason or don't have dogs and don't want to hear it when they come home. So take sometime and go outside with your pet, take them on a walk or play with them.
Consider the reason behind most dogs barking, they are not getting paid enough attention too. Don't get a dog unless your fully make them a part of your life. That cute lab or retriever puppy turns into a huge load barking machine same goes for the little breeds that go YAP YAP YAP.
I've grown up on a farm and had pets and livestock my whole life so I'm not some animal hater. I'm just asking for a little consideration for your neighbors, because when you live in a neighborhood, like it or not, other people did not choose for you to get a dog and should not have to suffer through it's constant barking and YES your dog can be heard streets away, so even if you hate your closet neighbors your dogs barking is not just not affecting them.
By the way the dog park at Broadneck is a great place!

Wow does that hit close to home, I hope my neighbors are reading this! ADDITION: No matter who you are, or how good your dog comes when called, There's a LEASH(sp?) LAW for dogs, and yes it includes your's! Neighbor: When you let your dog out at night, and when you get home HE apprently be-lines for our trash cans and I gues if they smell inviting he proceeds to know them over and have a party. I'm about done with your dog.

I can't agree more. We have two dogs and I feel bad if our dog is out in the backyard barking for a few minutes after doing their "business" However, some of my neighbors couldn't care less how long their dog is in the backyard barking. I find it especially annoying late at night or early in the morning. Do they not hear their dog, or do they just not care?

Some of you must live close proximity to me... either that or there are alot of INCONSIDERATE people!!! I "acquired" a 6 year old dog from my parents in December - we dogsat & now I own a dog... She's a great dog & at first because they lived in the country and she could roam and now she's confined to our backyard - she would bark every time my neighbors let their dogs out (WHO BARK NON-STOP!!!) Now my dog knows that if she goes to the fence & enters their barking contest, she's coming in... so now - she keeps her bark to herself!!! even when she wants to come in it's a low "growl" she "talks" alot. However, everyday at 7am (granted I'm up but I know my neighbors aren't) my other neighbor lets out his dogs & they run out the door barking & continue for 5 minutes or so... And what gets me - he's either out there w/ them or at the back door!!! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! Shut your dogs up!!! During the week - for me - it's not a nuisance but on the weekends... I want to go out there & yell back... and if any of the neighbors that live adjacent w/ his backyard are in their backyards while the dogs are out - the dogs will stand at the fence barking and barking and barking - It's pretty annoying! If I hear my dog bark - she comes in immediately because I know it's annoying!!! So with all that being said.... I agree... it's crazy and inconsiderate... guess they're better??? yeah..

Ok, thanks for your input, everyone. Didn't mean to be the pot stirrer, just asking for some info for our little getaway in June. We won't be driving back over the bridge to Broadneck from Stevensville, but thanks for the info since we have friends in Arnold. You won't hear our dog barking incessantly and we'll be just fine on the grounds at our accommodations.

Let my dog out in the yard to hang out - no leash (leash law or not), and he doesn't leave the yard. He actually walks around the house but knows the property lines and doesn't stray.
Every once in a while he'll let out a bark, but he knows if he starts yappin' it's back in the house so doesn't keep doing it.
I actually taught him to pick up after himself ;D Not!

Dog Owners........Check out the Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic Channel. A dog trainer teaches the proper way to train your dog......The screaming child in church brothers everyone but the mother. Same goes for the barking dog.

My dogs bark. I try to do my best to keep them quiet and if they start barking...I put them in right away. Luckily, my neighbors on both sides have dogs and the people behind me are deaf.
Anyway, just an fyi... I bought one of those "bark control type devices" it makes a high pitch sound and the dogs are supposed to stop barking. Well save your money. It didn't stop my dogs from barking... it made mine and all the other dogs start howling!

Luckily, my neighbors on both sides have dogs And that means.......? I have had dogs, grew up with them, until my last one a year ago. Me having dogs doesn't mean I like to hear yours bark. Mine only barked to come in, and they got in.

As I've said on here before we have 4 dogs and the people behind us have 4 as well. I don't like hearing other dogs barking incessantly, so I know other people don't want to hear mine. If they start...they come in. However, I wait until the 4 dogs behind us are inside before I let mine out for the simple fact that there will be incessant barking with all of them out there. As soon as I let mine out, their dogs start barking. So what happens then...they don't want to hear their dogs barking in the house, and whether they've just come in or not, they let them out for everyone else to hear times two. It has taught my dogs to fence fight and that is soo not a good thing! Not too mention all the cuts they get from the fence itself.
It really chaps my a$$ that all the work I've done to keep my 4 from being a nuisance outside is undone every time they let their dogs out with them. Needless to say, my dogs don't spend very much time outside. I think it's time for a privacy fence!!

BCHEVY,
By me saying that "luckily both my neighbors have dogs" was just me meaning that they are a little more understanding to the situation that dogs do bark. Yes, its up to the owner to control how much their dogs are barking outside. And no, I do not let my dogs bark because both of my neighbors have dogs. The neighbors' dogs bark for quite a long time and often bark late at night outside.
I think I am more on top of the situation than my neighbors and many other dog owners.
I don't like hearing my dogs bark or anyone else's dog bark either. As soon as my dogs start barking, either my son or I run to the back door to let them in.
My point for writing was just to let anyone who has a dog that barks outside (other than for wanting to come in)... that the electronic sound barking devices don't work. They are expensive and not refundable and not worth the money.

I hear ya, I have got 2 of those neighbors, one next door and one across the street. One of them keeps night hours so their dog is outside after 11:00 pm and barks until about 4:00. Luckily while we are sleeping we don't hear them we keep fans on for noise. The one across the street barks ALL-DAY-LONG!!

Does anyone posting talk to there neighbors or are you a bunch of hermits living on your computer chair typing all day.
Go talk to your neighbors get to know them, create a relationship with whom you share the same area. Then if you dont get anywhere complain moan and groan. Maybe take a video of there house and post it on utube and let everyone know its there so we can see it.
