Saw it today at the vacant joint next to LaPiazza... 2007 Charger. Yes it's got a HEMI and Sheriff Gary's name on it too.

Sorry, I was looking for the car on the QA County Sheriffs website. The had pictures of their cars on there last year. It looks like it's been changed quite a bit and it looks like a kid designed it. You can't even read the mission statement.

I have no idea what a HEMI is or if a sheriff needs one, but I'd like to know what the painting cost us.

It's a higher performing engine that DaimlerChrysler builds. Is it needed? It could give the Deputy an advantage in a persuit (SP?) situation if the car being chased is of the run of the mill variety.
Cost of painting the name? I wouldn't be so sure that the name is painted on. It might be a vinyl sticker. I haven't been close enough to look if it is or isn't a sticker. If it is a sticker, maybe $5 - $10 a side. Is the name needed? That's been debated elsewhere.

The sheriff's name is a decal as all the other lettering on our police cars. As far as cost goes, No clue! Sorry could not help on that one. The two new Dodge Chargers do look mean! Not enough room in them with all the police equipment on.

Barney Fife had all the fancy equipment too.......Traffic enforcement has become a joke.... Driving school tells the kids to keep up with the flow of traffic regardless of the speed limit, because it's safer. During rush hour everyone is seeding, tailgating, changing lanes unsafe, and following to close. This includes our Troopers, our Deputies, the Toll Facility Police, and the DNR Police.( Don't do as I do do as I say)......... At 3 AM when there is hardly any traffic the speeding laws are strictly enforced, and don't have a tag lite out, or a unbuckled seat belt. Unless you are an Illegal, then it's O.K..

Barney WANTED "all the fancy equipment", he didn't have it. Get it right. I agree (Oh God) with the traffic enf. statements.....

Barney didn't have all our tax money to waste. All he could get away with was using the police car for personal business and letting Otis use the jail cell like a hotel.

Just remember, some of the most dangerous times on the road are between midnight and 3 am after the bars close........

I think that the Charger gets something like 15MPG too. Totally not practical for people that spend the whole day driving. It's a sharp looking car, but being that it's a Chrysler product, it's junk, and the fact that when purchased you have to pay a gas guzzeler tax makes it just a pig.

I wonder what the 4.6 in the Crown Vic PI gets.

Don't think so. They're built on the same platform as the 300, Magnum and all those.

18 city, 25 highway with the mds hemi. (Multiple Displacement System) which drops 4 cylinders when cruising. Transmission and rear end is Mercedes. Engine is built in Mexico, car is assembled in Canada, Transmission and rear built in Germany.
Out performs the Crown Vic in every aspect, including gas mileage.

Impressive!!
Let's see how they hold up in the day to day 'butt kicking' and 'cost per mile' analysis as they get long in the tooth.

ONCE AGAIN THE NEW SHERIFF IS NOT DRIVING ONE OF THESE CARS. THEY WERE GIVEN TO SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS AND TWO OFFICERS IN PATROL ARE TRYING THEM OUT FOR PATROL USE.
THE SHERIFF IS DRIVING AN UNMARKED CAR WITH NO PAITING OR LIGHTS.
THE CROWN VIC POLICE UNIT WILL BE PHASED OUT EVENTUALLY AND DEPARTMENTS AROUND US ARE GOING TO THE CHARGER OR THE DURANGO...ALL LT'S AND ABOVE IN A COUNTY ARE DRIVING THE DURANGOS. THE DODGE OFFERS A NICE POICE PACKAGE ON THESE UNITS. HEY, TOLL OFFICERS ARE DRIVING MUSTANGS, STATE POLICE EVERYTHING FROM SPORT CARS TO PICK-UP TRUCKS. ARE WE GOING TO HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT OUR LOCAL OFFICERS OR SUPPORT THEM AS THEY PROTECT US.?

Maybe they have protected you, but that has not been my family's experience with them. Hopefully that will change. Even if they are doing their jobs, that doesn't mean we should blindly support everything they do, such as wasting money.
