I'm not sure how many people here have utilized this program offered to our kids for after school activities, but my son has been involved in it for 2 years now & as a working mom - it's awesome!! Cost $50 can go 5 days a week or 1 day a week for that. Granted first come first served, but hey... I'm not going to complain. I've lived in different areas & nothing like this has ever been offered - at least without a ridiculous price tag. Anyway, I received a flyer saying that the county has cut 70% of their funding!! What the hell??? Apparently there is some meeting on 3/27 and I don't have details with me now - I know I plan on going! Does anyone know anything about this or have more information?

Shorti, there's an article in "Bay Times" about this, something about them needing funding.

If you find any info out about this meeting - Please let me know and I'll post it on the website to try and get some more support. Some of the people in the "Kids Corner" section might know about this too - or want to know.

Thanks!! It's 3/27 @ 6:30pm at Queen Anne's High School auditorium. The flyer I received says that this is a community meeting to discuss the status of funding and the actions necessary to sustain the program for next school year.

I am going to come to the meeting. I have a 13 year old who is involved in the after school program and it really gives me peace of mind that he is at least AT school and being structuredas we all kow that sometimes having free time on our hands when we are 13 is not a good thing. Perhaps they can do fund raisers or something. Please post anythingthat can be done to help and I will see you on the 27th

I don't get cutting any youth groups here. There isn't anything for kids to do as it is and these after-school groups help keep kids occupied and out of trouble. Sometimes this area really makes me wonder about the intelligence of the powers that be around here. Lets cut the after-school programs, not allow anything kid friendly like a movie theater, bowling alley, game room, etc., to open, BUT allow the building of multiple banks, drug stores, and a mega supermarket, and wonder why local kids are getting high all of the time. It sounds to me that the lawmakers are the ones with a drug problem.

It'd be interesting to see who is cutting the funding. A report back here after the 27th's meeting would be enlightening. My kids are grown so I won't be attending (not sure if that's a valid reason or not but I'm stickin' wid it) but I care and I do vote. Anyway I found this on the QAC site: www.qac.org/depts/lmb/lmbhome.htmThe "Descriptor" part is of interest. It looks like funding is from the state and administered by a board from the county.

Funny... the site above hasn't had the meeting minutes updated for years and the current year's meeting schedule hasn't been posted. Something else to address.
People think that the internet is such a wonderful thing until they realize there's a thing that's called maintenance that goes with it.

I received that same email as well from Amy. I have every intention of going and if they need my help for fundraising - I'll do everything I can! My son loves the after school program that they have and it is a peace of mind that he's there at least a few days a week. With starting middle school next year - this program is huge for me and my family!!! I'll be there... that's a promise...
