I'm more interested in what's going to end up on those pad sites? Also, what will be going in the shopping center Safeway left?

The big one that I've heard is pretty much a done-deal is a Green Turtle in one of the pad sites. The old Safeway is going to be a tough one to fill unfortunately.

If I had the money or investors I would so open a movie theater on that old Safeway site. Goldmine in the making there, and a good way of contributing to the community. Parking would need to be worked out though.

Good idea.
Would probably need some seriously big investors. I'm thinkiing along the engineering lines of it though. The current arrangement is a flat slab. Theater floors are sloped down to the screen. I dunno...

Heard a while ago that they were putting a Starbucks in the new Safeway. Just a rumor?

Heard a while ago that they were putting a Starbucks in the new Safeway. Just a rumor? When I drove by it yesterday it looked like they were putting the Starbucks on the right front corner on the Rt18 side.

That's how Safeway's been doing it lately with their new stores. Starbucks inside, or a Starbucks right next door.

I know that it's very lame of me, but I'm really looking forward to a bakery here. Mmmm, fresh bread and bagels.

Speaking of movie theaters, I can't remember the last time I saw a movie in a theater; became way to expensive. I can buy the video and watch it a lot more comfortably at home on my 51" TV for less than the cost of going to the theater. (me & the wife)

The Nut Shop is pretty cool, you can mix and match to make your own peanut butter, just thought that was different.

The Starbux will go inside to the left, before you get to the cleaners and not at the end of the center.

I personally spoke with a rep from Safeway corporate on Friday about the Starbucks. He said that they were still working on some legalities but that it was still their plan. I spoke with a rep from Starbucks as well, although that was a few months ago, who was one of the people who work with stand alone builds and was here on the island, all she would say was that there was one coming but she wouldn't say where. Both of the corporations have an agreement, just like the agreements that Safeway has with SunTrust and Bergmans. As of Friday the arrangement was still together and they were working out details. In fact he told me where inside the store it was expected to be. However, he was still unsure who rented the end retail spot. He is supposed to get back to me this week if that is information that they are willing to reveal, some things they like to keep secret to build anticipation. At this point although it is rumored that it will be a Greene Turtle, no one from either company will reveal it, and I personally know the owners of the Turtle. However I did get the 'impression' from my conversations that it is a Turtle even though the furniture inside looks like a cafe. It is still possible that the end spot will be a Starbucks. There are 2 there to rent and both are in the process of builds.

I've heard that True Value is going to lease half of the old Safeway. They said they need to wait until Safeway sells it back to the landlord, and then figure out a way to split the store in two. This came from someone who works at True Value.
My vote would be a bowling alley...

I was sorry to see the isles in the new safeway are still very narrow. Barely possible for two carts to squeeze by, and with items stacked in the isle often impossible. This was my pet peeve with the other store, thought it would have changed.
