ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WNAV) – Motorists should expect new traffic patterns this morning on the Bay Bridge. The Maryland Transportation Authority says two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span due to bridge preservation work. One lane of the eastbound span will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today through Thursday for routine bridge inspections. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span as needed to accommodate traffic volumes. Overhead lane signals on the westbound span will experience temporary outages. Drivers should stay alert and obey all traffic-control devices. The posted speed limit for the westbound span is 45 mph throughout the duration of the project

At first I thought Rich might have mistyped so I checked the WNAV website. Then I figured WNAV might have mistyped until I considered the source. I wonder if the MdTA doesn't really think they can close one lane of the eastbound span AND run two-way traffice at the same time!

Good heavens....this makes me happy I did my travelling over the bridge yesterday and am in the opposite end of the state today. Be safe over there, everyone. This sounds nuts (signal outages??? Like it isn't crazy enough when they put two-way on one bridge...sigh). Good thing they are working to make it safer!

Don't worry...... the new 3rd span across the bay will be open any day now and all the traffic problems will go away.
