Relocating to MD from RI and considering KI. Would have to commute to town center Columbia and curious for insights from those that may already be doing it. Thanks!

Dave, You're looking at about a 50 minute commute to Columbia Town Center. US 50 West through Annapolis to I97 North to Rte 32 West, over I95 and about 4 miles down. It's probably about 35 miles total, and 32 & I97 are normally a straight-shot. The only problem area is Annapolis (Severn River Bridge) that backs up - addin about 15 minutes to your going home commute beween the hours of 5-6:30PM. There is a way around it - Route 2 "Ritchie Hwy", but it has traffic lights. I commuted into Baltimore every day for about 7 years and got used to it. If you like the water and like being 15-20 minutes from Annapolis and just under an hour from both Baltimore and D.C., then this is a great place to live. If you don't want to commute more than 45 minutes, then nope.

I might argue about the mileage, but the sentiment remains the sam.e I would say less than an hour to Columbiia, and watch out for the Severn River bridge on Thurs. and Fri. aftenoons.
KI (or the entire eastern shore) is a great place to live. You know what your patience for traffic is, but I find that I don't mind it that much.

Rte 2 to rte 10 and back isn't bad DEPENDING on the time of day you hit it, AND it saves you from the Severn River Bridge fiasco every evening. I go from 50 to Glen Burnie and back daily, and MIGHT hit 4 lights on a bad trip, they seem to be timed,,, somewhat....

Traffic was light today. Left KI at 8:15 and was passing Verzizon Center (DC) at 9:00.
(sorry, nothing to do with Columbia)

I overslept today and still got to work 10 minutes early (KI to DC) "Emmancipation Day" was the reason. Supposedly it was signed as a legal holiday last year. We are getting a comp day for this instead of the day off because of the weather. I had never heard of this until last week.

When the BRAC starts happening at Ft. Meade, all the roads in that portion of A.A. Co. are going to be gridlocked.
A.A. County knew it was coming, why haven't they started working the on the infrastucture?
