State boys IN the circle this morning, WTH for? seat belts? fail to yield? How about for stopping at a yield for no reason? WAG: To ticket people speeding to/through the circle as they try to get around the backup on 50 caused by the Bay Bridge Walk. Yeah, OK, that was cancelled, but that should be no reason to change a perfectly good plan. (Who would have thought there might be a windy day in MD in the Spring?) How long is it going to take before people learn to drive through the circle properly?

People who can't drive through the circle of doom are the same ones who then stop in front of the McDonald's and Route 50 entrances for no reason.
The police had to do something today since the walk was canceled and there were no diaper bags to inspect.

You know what dawned on me yesterday?? In the little town of Camden-Wyoming, DE - it is KNOWN that you do not speed through there or you will get caught & ticketed! They will stop you for doing 27 in a 25!!! This being said - let me tell you what they do with the fines collected... the money from speeding/traffic tickets paid for raises for the teachers of their school district, they've built a new firehouse which had been damaged by fire (ironic right?) - I have to say... All counties should adopt this ....

All of the fine monies go into the State's General Slush Fund. Problem with the locals getting all the revenue is that it would reek of a quota system.

Delaware does it as well as Pennsylvania. A portion of the funds go directly to the issuing law enforcement agency.

Ditto with Virginia. Fines go to a general fund for schools, teachers, and other projects.

shorti........To give a citizen a ticket for doing 27 in a 25 is a disgrace, and a greater disgrace for the Judge to find you guilty. It's virtually impossible to drive without violating a traffic law. Living by the spirit of the law is better than living by the letter of the law........Should you get a ticket for not using a turn signal at 3am when you are the only car on the road?

Pete's back. I say yes you should get a ticket for failure to signal, if the officer so chooses. A warning would suffice. Why? If not using a signal at 3:00am, and your only excuse is because you're the only vehicle? More likely than not, it's a regular habit, and a turn signal is never used, no matter what time of day, or how many vehicles are on the road.

Amen, Kl! We're creatures of habit, and chances are those who don't use the turn signal at 3 a.m. probably don't any other time of day. Those people drive me nuts!
Doing 27 mph in a 25 mph zone and getting ticketed is probably a little extreme. Chances are it wouldn't happen.

Thanks Shadow. I always signal. 3 years ago, one of my New Year's resolutions, was to be a more couteous driver. Signal when changing lanes, and throwing a wave back at the driver to let me in. You would be quite surprised how this has a ripple effect, and is passed on. Doesn't really help with the real a**holes on the road, but it's my small part.

I saw on the news that the DC area is in the top 5 for rudest drivers in the country. I couldn't agree more, and unfortunately I can really see it around here during beach/tourist season

Many years back I did get a ticket in Crofton for doing 28mph in a 25mph zone. Went to court and the judge threw it out and admonished the Crofton cop for wasting his and my time.

No one is more critical of the way things are done in this county than me, however facts are facts. Largest complaint in the county - SPEED. All revenue from tix goes to MD General fund, not local agency. Keep this in mind, how many of you would do their job for 32K/yr?

I think the 32 is base salary. Now let's figure in overtime, the use of the car off duty, medical benefits, retirement costs. I'm not saying the pay is the greatest but just make sure all the facts are on the table.
