My wife takes the Dillon Bus from KI to DC every day and I drop her off in the morning on mst days. This week I really noticed a ton of garbadge, mainly broken glass and beer cans/bottles all over the parking lot. This morning I ran ove a bottle by accident and it broke under my tire. Luckilly it didn't puncture, but it could have and probably should have. Obviously the KI P&R is a hangout for underage drinkers and they are leaving their litter all over the place. Who is in charge of maintaining that lot?

Who is in charge? Well you are, and every citizen of the area. Perhaps you can get a team of fellow commuters, and one weekend a month, police the lot. We can't always place the blame, or hold others accountable, until we hold ourselves accountable. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Obviously the KI P&R is a hangout for underage drinkers and they are leaving their litter all over the place. It is definitely that and has been for quite a while. I've lived here for 5 1/2 years and it's been the local teen hangout since before I moved here.

Everytime I drive by the P&R and see a huge group of kids sitting there with their cars parked everywhere but in a parking spot with their radios blasting and they're all hanging around drinking it really makes me wonder where the police are. That's such a high visibility area, there's no reason that stuff should be allowed to happen.

The sad thing is that the police are well aware of what goes on in that lot. It is beyond me why they don't patrol it more often.

Well Heather, appears like on other threads on this board, that even though a police officer's job is to Protect and Serve their community, that they can't be bothered with something as simplistic as monitoring lots. Wonder if you have the same problems that we have in commuter lots, and that is theft of belongings and stereos from the cars parked there throughout the day?

The P&R is paid for by the tax payers, and its rules, and regulations are enforceable under the law. One of the violations pertains to commercial vehicles being stored...... Other than the kids hanging out, what other violations of the law are being violated with immunity?

Here is a simple idea: Why don't the people who use the park and ride grab a broom, shovels, trash bags and meet 2 times on a Sat or Sun and clean it up. Someone take charge and post some readable signs coming in and out of the parking lot of when to have your clean up days and stand up on the bus and announce when the clean up days will be. Then call Sheriff's office and state police before you do the clean up and let them know you all are doing your part and expect them to do the same by breaking up the drinking spot. The state and county police are both always hovering around that area anyways passing out tickets so they can't say we don't have enough officers to patrol the lot they just need to make 2 extra turns before they get back on 50 to hand out some more tickets.

Why should it fall to the commuters to clean the parking lot up? We aren't the ones trashing it? I take the Dillon's bus to DC every day as well...and I am there long enough to park my car and catch a ride in the AM, and in the eve jump in my car and go home. Those who hang out at the park and ride with their friends or whatever....THEY ARE THE ONES THAT SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE MESS. Arrest them all, and give them community service of cleaning up the P&R. I don't condone underage drinking.....but I also don't care that the kids meet up and hang out better then them out driving around...but they should be held accountable for the mess they make....

Not a real terrible thought. and not a hard thing to do. Even if you "just catch the bus" you're using the P&R

Cussing the whole time about the jerks who have no integrety whatsoever...Called em all fat sloppy pigs... .And then I felt bad because I insulted pigs! They didn't deserve that... (Please if there are any pig farmers or members who own pigs as pets...please tell them I didn't mean to offend them!)

Want to know why you should clean it up. Because it's a mess and everyone wants to complain about it but no one wants to get off their butts and do something that would take a few hours and if you must receive something in return, here it is: You won't pop the tires on your car you won't get glass in the sole of your shoes and what happens if someone slips and falls onto the glass. OHHHH that's right you'll just SUE the state over it. LAZY LAZY You comment about why should you clean it up sounds like a childs excuse about cleaning up a mess.

Eine, all we're saying is that the Park and Ride was established for the commuters, and while it's in your rights to complain, just swallow your pride, and police the lot. In turn, I am sure other commuters will join in.

But no worries....I do my part........
