Does anyone know what is going on with the development behind the Kmart? I hear all kinds of rumors like more than 200 homes, priced in the $350-400 range. is this possible? What is the real story?
Thanks,
Crabby

I heard on the radio a few days ago that it's a 300 home development that was originally supposed to be 500, but Gene Ransom had something to do with it being less. I missed the whole thing so I'm not all that clear on details.

I believe that the development of 106 homes directly behind K-Mart is pending approval. They are requesting an extension from the county planning commision to work on details before it can be voted on.
I believe the 2 developments that were planned for behind that ... around Kent Manor Inn ... has been squashed by the adoption of the KI Community Plan. Now that area is designated as "critical" so its 1 house per 20 acres.

Where in Thompson Creek? I can't think of any empty stores in there - unless they are planning to build between Food Lion and the liquor store?

They are planning to put the cracker barrell where Short Stop Pizza is right now, right on Rt 50.
Put it hasnt been approved by the county. Now that the Chester/Stevensville community plan has finally been adopted, wouldnt that weigh into the decission whether it gets approved?
The Plan calls for no more "corporate architecture" in order to give KI a unique feel.

I was told there are three developments planned for that area - Ellendale (280 units), the McKay property which is where the cows are (300 units), and the Kent manor Inn property (300 units).
I would recommend you contact the county commissioners if you have questions - I have had great success with getting answers to my questions from them.

What's going on across 50 from the new Safeway? There's a bunch of building going on and they were even working today (Saturday).

Oh, that would be the 280 home Gibson Grant development.
Yes, not only will it add tons of new traffic to the area, it will put a tremendous stain on our school system as well. All of our schools are operating at or near capactiy right now and for some reason the last bunch of commissioners didn't seem to think about how many students will be entering our schools from this new development. Or they thought about, but didn't care.

Another simple "what do you know about..." question is turned into a thread about (over)development on the island. Is it that we're bored, frustrated, concerned, or just whiners?
But, because I've been told it's expected of me.....
We have sufficient housing to create a crowded area now, we don't need more.
