Hi. I need a handy man to help me out a little all over. I really need my inside done (drywall hole patching, small painting, putting in screens, repairing screens, putting in sink stoppers, putting in a pull down attack stairs, opening painted shut window (I know this sounds bad but my house is actually a nice house! ), but also could use some outside help too (bushes cut out, tree branches cut, deweed my small rose garden, and a tree remove). If someone just wants to do some and not all thats cool too. Where can I post this request? I saw the swap&shop but thats not a help wanted section. Thanks!

Lynn, Our "Employment" section is free. You can access it from the main website or directly at www.kentislandjobs.com Just sign up under "Employers" and you can post for a handyman. Be sure to use your correct Email address so when somebody applies it will get through. You can also search potential employee resume's as well.

As an employer you won't see it - but it's there. If you sign up as an employee you will see it. Sorry that it's a lot of steps, but that's the program.

Lynn, He is about to start advertising in the Kent Island Update as "The Island Handyman" Why would he advertise in our competition over us? We get over 20,000 unique hits a month (which is over 40,000 including returning visits) of people that are seeking out this website. The competition is delivered to X amount of homes with no way of knowing who is actually reading it. They have pretty much zero content other than ads and week-old news from a radio station that nobody has heard of. We have daily news from WNAV, an active Events calendar, kids calendar, announcements page, swap & shop, and this forum. We have reach that not only includes Kent Island, Grasonville, Queenstown and Centreville, but Annapolis (via AnnapolisSite.com) and areas like DC, NOVA, Baltimore and P.A. where we get a lot of hits from people looking to vacation here, stop off here, and move here. The competition has old news, no content, a reach that only includes the Shore at best, and no proof that anyone reads them. They also cost more than double what it costs to advertise here. Newspaper subs are down across the board - whether its the Washington Post, NY Times, USA Today, or the local paper. People are getting their content online now more than ever. Here is an article on that fact: www.kpbs.org/radio/these_days?id=7499Please - I'm not looking to offend anyone, I'm just confused as to why anyone would choose to advertise on a medium that is not only in decline, but that can't prove readership.

I don't know anyone that reads the "Update" (not much to read in there) but a lot of people do read The Bay Times. I can see big generic papers like the Washington Post losing readers to the internet, but I think that local papers covering things that big papers won't cover will make it right alongside websites like this one. Rich, have you ever tried to do a partnership with The Bay Times? The two most read news & info providers hooking up would be a really good thing.

I would love to do some sort of partnership with them, but when I contacted them a few years ago they never got back to me. I went with WNAV instead and they have been a great partner for us. Hopefully once we do this charity function this September, we can start getting some name recognition among local business owners, which has been our only problem. The residents know that we're here, but a lot of business owners don't live on or around KI, so they haven't considered us to advertise on yet. I spoke at the local Chamber of Commerce meeting briefly yesterday to say who we are and I saw a few people that went "Hey, we use that site" and a lot of "Kent Island dot who?" from business owners that live in places like Cambridge and Chestertown.
