If it looks so bad around here why not leave? that would free up a house for someone else. and cut back on the need for a developement some.
apples and oranges,
trash, used cars, developements, no relation between the three.
Truckers NEED a place to rest, MDTA has Chased them away due to an errant driver. Without truckers this whole country would be in a mess.. People don't want a truck stop, or a rest area, heck- under the bridge sounds good to me. All those boat trailers during the day are an eyesore too, wanna run them out?
Live and let live, clean up the mess,
Control the developement according to WHAT WE NEED, not what the developer WANTS.
ENFORCE the rules on the books for the environment TO THE "T". NO Variances, NO Exceptions, NONE. This takes the money men right out of the picture and saves the critical areas as the laws were meant to.

one of the arguments is that the development will bring new jobs. huh? I think that refers to all the additional grocery stores, restaraunts, gas stations, car dealerships and strip malls that would need to be build on Kent Island to service a 10% increase in population.

following on KI--many of those 55 and older not only will not be in the workforce, but may not have much expendable income. so the economic value may be small. and mikey, you're right! if there's something we don't have enough of here, it's gas stations, fast food dumps, etc. plus new banks and drug stores go up every month it seems. whoever used the more jobs argument must think we kent islanders are dumber than a pile of oyster shells. if we are to get more jobs here, they need to be of the more-than-minimum-wage variety. that's not going to happen with 4 seasons or these other developments. and if khov can bus in people from new jersey and other areas to say how "wonderful" life is, they can certainly bus in construction workers and the like, especially since ours ore so booked all the time.

I agree that the landscaping for Gibson's Grant looks great. Any developer can make their develop look nice but I don't think that is so much the issue. The county is currently stuggeling in many areas due to the extensive growth KI has encountered over the past decade and it seems to me the county needs to "catch up" before we add any more homes and people.
We've got people living with failing septic systems, our children are going to school in portables due to overcrowding and the traffic is becoming heavier and heavier. Just by design, KI becomes gridlocked if there is a backup or an accident on Rt. 50 - this will never change and if we keep adding more homes and more people to the island, eventually we will just be in constant gidlock.
I really think KI is maxed out on what it can accomodate population-wise. Let's fix the current problems we are dealing with as a result of all the development over the past 10-20 years before we go making the problem worse with even more people.

Great points all around. Build the infrastructure, build the schools, hire the folks that will be needed for all of these incoming folks first. Otherwise, like the majority of the metro area, development gets way out of hand, and so far ahead, it takes a decade or two before the infrastructure can catch up. And once that happens, you'll get that gridlock that you're already experiencing with no relief in sight. Perhaps "slow growth" would be in order?

Look at what the Commonweath of Virginia is doing with 'fees' to support the out of control growth of Loudon, Fairfax, and Prince William Counties.
