We just got something in the mail last week telling us about everything that is in our water. I didn't notice if it mentioned arsenic. I've heard that Centreville has an arsenic problem, but this is the first I've heard of a problem on KI. Doesn't surprise me though.

I just saw a commercial for the Channel 11 report airing tonight. Looks like reporter Sherman corners school superintendent Sadusky and asks him about high arsenic in school water and why letters weren't sent home.

I wouldn't trust Channel 11 as far as I could toss my TV. I've PERSONALLY seen their editing of answers at work......

I wouldn't trust Sadusky as far as I could toss my TV either.
Instead of sending home letters, as the MDE suggested in May, the corrupt bureaucrats posted a notice on the door of the school today knowing that the cat was out of the bag. Sounded like the MDE was at fault for not following up also. What else is new. It will be interesting to see what happens with this.

Sure would like to see some details on this. Could be true, could be exaggeration, could be a load of crap. Need more than, "a guy on the forum said that a guy on the news said that a guy from a school said that a guy from the County said...."

Falgar, it's supposed to be on channel 11 tonight again at 11, and I also saw a commercial about drinking water for channel 2 but am not sure it was this same issue. It will probably be on the channel 11 website by tomorrow. Also, there was something in the Bay Times about water problems in Queenstown.
There is a video link on the WBAL website now, but I couldn't get it to work or even copy the link. I don't know if the story at 11 is going to be any different.

Looks like the Board of Ed will be holding a News Conference on Friday June 8th at the Board of Ed building in Centreville.

Typical Board of Education screw up, blame everyone else but themselves. You hit nail on the head, with that one! It is time for an Elected Board of Education!

I have not lived here that long but did vote here last year and I seem to remember that being one of the things we voted on to have an elected school board, is that correct? I just seem to remember being surprised that it wasn't elected positions. I also saw the news where they interviewed Sadusky, what a joke, he's got to go. He appears to be a pro at passing the buck and claiming innocence through stupidity " Lets blame the State" He seems to think the parents of this county are idiots. He needs to realize this is no longer a little school system where they can hide things, parents in this county are no longer going to tolerate this kind of behavior from the people who are suppose to be helping look out for kids.

Sadusky is one of many bureaucrats in this county who have had their no-show jobs for way too long. I believe the referendum for an elected school board passed with like 85 percent. Definitely a step in the right direction. www.sentinelwhispers.com/drinking.doc - Link to a document about the arsenic. Did anyone see the press conference?

Can't seem to get the sentinel whispers link to work. I've heard many times about arsenic in Centreville's water. I know the mayor has addressed it on her blog before. Surprises me that people who live there could be unaware.
Do we have the problem here on KI?

Not sure what to think about all of this. First, here's something from the Centreville website. Looks like an announcement that may have been sent to residents, but I don't live there so I don't know. townofcentreville.org/view_report.rml?rep=71If this was sent around, then it's hard to say that no one knew about this. Next, if you look into the background on this, the Federal standard that is now being broken used to be a bit higher. Until 2001, the arsenic level in the Centreville water was about 1/2 the standard. In 2001, the Govt. lowered the standard. What was perfectly safe, with room to spare, was all of a sudden very high. So, do we have an, "OMG, what are we going to do?!!" moment? Or do we trust the announcement that says things are being done?

I would question WHY the fed's lovered the acceptable level so drastically. Was it because research was showing that the old standard (which has been in place since the 40's) was resulting in too many deaths?
It is my understanding that the reason the new standard (set in 2001) was not enforced until last year was to give public agencies time to apply for grants and treat their water. It is also my understanding that QAC has not taken advantage of any of these grant opportunties.

Two reports: www.qac.org/depts/dpw/download/Ccr-stev-05.pdfwww.qac.org/depts/dpw/download/Ccr-pros-05.pdfOne says Centreville water has arsenic levels greater than 10ppb and the other says Stevensville water does not. Good for the island, right? Except the Centreville report says the water with the >10ppb water is taken from the aquia aquifer while the Stevensville report says that water taken from that same aquifer shows no signs of arsenic. Why such a drastic difference??? Which report is correct? This announcement from the town of Centreville townofcentreville.org/view_report.rml?rep=71 says they are nearing completion on one treatment plant and plan to start another. It doesn't say whether they've taken any grant money for this, but their clam is that they are doing something about the problem. There is also a report online about an arsenic treatment demonstration program that was conducted in the county. I don't have the link for that right now, but it was pretty easy to find. It could be that the new plant was built around that project.

The problem is :
NO ACCOUNTABILITY OF GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES
Your ordinary citizens should start getting together and show up at some of these peoples doorways with video sound recorders demanding answers. They do work for the people.
If you are not a gov employee do you have to answer to the people you work for ?
