I sit there for lunch sometimes.. I pulled up and a guy was changing his brakes and oil on his blazer under the new 50 overpass in the middle of the parking lot.
How he got away with that blows my mind.

Welcome to Kent Island. This area should be pristine, instead it looks like a dump when you get off exit 41. Better yet every wonder where the oil went?

Nope. I know right where it went. It contributed to that pretty rainbow film covering the surface of Kent Narrows.

Are you saying he dumped the oil in the parking lot?
Hate to be a nanny, but I'd call the police and MDE with the guy's tag number and a description. That's illegal for a reason.

I would hope that ANYONE, boater or not, would report such offenses. He could have had a catch can but I bet it's probably not an approved use of that lot.

I think the County's Department of Tourism should be called and then they should call the Maryland Department of Tourism. After all, Rt 18 is called the "Scenic By-way". Guess if that doesn't get any results, we could try our elected representitives

Has anyone ever really noticed the entrance to the old Narrows Bridge. Here is how all our West shore tourists enter the Narrows and it looks like crap. When are they ever going to clean up the rusted rail and do a little painting. Several things they need to do: 1: stop the 18 wheelers from parking under the bridge over night and on the side of the road. 2: Look at all the junk on the side of the road from the Red Eye from Sunday. Garbage all over the place. The police should not allow parking on the side of the road going into the Red Eye. Ever notice how dirty the Island is after a Sunday in the summer. We should MAKE the restaurants clean up the garbage. SEND THE WESTERN SHORE TOURISTS (PIGS) BACK HOME! The old Narrows bridge is owned by the state, contacting the county will so no good. When you see the operator in the tower go up and ask him or call (410)643-5963 and ask when they plan on painting the bridge, also SHA posts their projects at www.sha.state.md.us/index.asp Nothing currently planned, but guess what they paid $168,000 to operate the bridge for two years...... Same thing with the Lot's under the bridge and the road leading into the Marina/ Red Eyes, they are all state roads. I've always thought since they've developed the Narrows Area to the point they have why not make it presentable and do away with the "Entering a Marina Feeling", dress it up...make the businesses Like Harris's, Annie's, Red Eye's pay for the improvements. Just because it's state owned doesn't mean the locals can't pay for the improvements....

Does that work the other way too? How about the state help me make improvements to my place? sorry but, IF the state owns it, That would mean WE are already paying to maintain it........ And isn't it a Marina? At least on one side. AND I'm retty sure the county has a great deal to do with it. We used to have car shows UNDER the new bridge before the boat ramps were there (and all the trailers) We had to get permission from the County to have the show there, never talked to the state. I think the Hot Dog vendor had/has a county permit to be there.....

I agree, yes the state should pay for the improvements, but with past experiences in mind it would be faster just to do it yourself. And getting in the age old debate of why do something we are already paying for debate is a waste of time. Everyone knows what should happen, what could happen, but we also know what wont happen thats life, it sucks, but that's the way it is. On K.I. side yes it's a marina, and on Grasonville side it's mostly a boat yard. What I'm talking about is the road going past the seafood distributor (United Shellfish) on down to Annie's. You needed a permit from the county for the gathering, not the use of the lot since Grasonville is not Incorporated that falls into the county's hands (same as when they do the car show at the park and ride next to western auto, state property but need the gathering permit). Also the Hot dog guy needed a temp food vendor permit.

I've always thought since they've developed the Narrows Area to the point they have why not make it presentable and do away with the "Entering a Marina Feeling", dress it up... Don't agree with this. It is a marina area, all four corners of it. The marina feel is appropriate and is what makes it unique. The Inner Harbor in Baltimore has the harbor and has the city feel. Pleasure Island at Disney has the Disney feel. Riverwalk in San Antonio has a unique feel. Why not have a unique feel for KI? And what would be more appropriate for KI than a marina feel. Sure, if the area was run down or littered or dangerous, that would be a different story. But let's not be too quick to remove all the island feel from KI.

AGREE, FALGAR. another case of trying to change things to suit people who want this place to look like someplace else--someplace they probably left because it was too crowded, too touristy, whatever, and now they want to create the same situations here.
