Does anyone know what is going to be built across from the shore stop behind K-Mart? I've heard several plans including low-income housing. That would suck considering this is primo property.

I heard the same. Homes in the 250-300K range. They fought Four Seasons that would have been beautiful only to put low cost housing here. Glen Burnie is coming faster than we think. Boy I hope I am wrong. I hope it won't hurt Kent Manor Inn. I love that place. Next time I go I will ask them. I am sure they knoww. It's very strange that they have kept this development HUSH HUSH

Yeah I think the new homes from 250k -300k being built will go up to 400k - 500k in two years making other homes in the area go up in value.
Where will our kids live around here that is affordable ?

I don't think that 250-300K is low income housing, just affordable. If this was section-8 or something like that it would be something to worry about. Maryland sure likes to build designer ghettos, like the one behind St. Johns in Annapolis, so we should really keep an eye on this because they just bring crime to the area.

You can barely get a 3 bedroom 1 bath rancher for less than 300k around here.
All we need now is a Rail System to Baltimore and DC.

Look at Owings Mills. The average low cost home is 395K and then look at the area. My friend just sold his for 400K because of the crime in that area. 300-400K WILL bring in crime from the western shore. Just what we need over here is more crack labs.

That's some relief! My neighbor told me they read in the Capitol that is was low income. I couldn't believe it could come in that quietly. I couldn't find it in the paper.

"In Stevensville, more bulldozers are clearing ground on property adjacent to the historic Kent Manor Inn.
It's Ellendale Farms," said Patricia Baldwin, treasurer of Reliable Contracting in Millersville, general contractor on the site. "It's a mix of townhouses and single families - 280 units."

MAN O MAN I wish I had some of your jobs/paychecks/inheritances.... I wish there was more affordable housing here! A little ridiculous "shack" less than 1500sf is typically over 300K - so "low income" to you people is 250-300K? It's ridiculous the cost of houses & considering I personally know how much it cost to build a really nice 3000sf home - it's pretty sad... get off you high horses people - if you can afford a 400K and up mortgage payment - then good for you - but we have 2 incomes and I would have to be "house poor" to do that and that's a sacrifice I'm not going to make. 250-300K homes low income? ?? Are you freaking kididng me... it will bring in crime? moron.... I wish i knew what the view was like from your ivory tower....

It seems to me that $250-300K would be considered "affordable housing" for some of the positions we desperately need in this county - teachers and police officers. I would also think it would be ideal for single income families and young families looking to buy their first home. But, then this brings up the issue of where will their kids go to school since our schools are becoming overcrowded as quickly as they are built.
If you are worried about "low income housing" that might attract crime/drugs - focus your energy on the 100 unit project of Riverside Phase II down Cox Neck Road that just recently got moved up in the budget.

The Riverside thing is worrisome. I wonder if teachers/cops and other productive citizens will move in there or if it will turn into another Cemetary Road.

I have to agree with Shorti. In no way, shape or form, is $250,000, to $300,000 low income home. And I doubt very much, a with a teacher's income, nor a police officer's income alone, could they afford a home at that price. Unless of course they're willing to pay a high mortgage. Heck, my home, on a one third of an acre, 4 bedroom, 2 and half baths, full walkout basement, and a connected 2 car garage, was a deal at $240,000 4 years ago. Yes the value has gone up, but the house is not low income housing.

shorti, maybe I didn't put that properly. What I heard was government assisted housing. That is what I meant by low-income. $250-300K is affordable housing by todays standards. Most two income families with any down payment can afford. Heck, my house wasn't that much 8 years ago.

Government assisted? Or Section 8 housing? Sure would love the government in assisting me and my mortgage.

It's amazing to me.... only people the gov't seems to help out our the ones who don't want to help themselves... gee i seem to remember my grandpop telling me you can't help those who won't help themselves... hmmmm,,,,

Your grandpop was a wiseman, Shorti. I'll put myself out there, and say I'm in my 40's. Guess we're from the generation, where we were raised, to get an education, get that "good" job to provide for our families, and work, work, and work to earn, and improve our lots in life. We were raised to never, ever ask the local or federal government for financial assistance,(except when applying for those student loans). I believe several of us here, had parents that had careers with companies, for 20+ years, that they retired from, collected their pensions, then Social Security kicked in. Nowadays? Ha..Though, my previous jobs, I've stayed at for 3 or more years, I've been in this one for 7 years and counting now....Hoping for 13 more before I can buy that Winnebago and travel the States.
