Watch out for the lovesick deer... the rut is rising to full swing.
I've seen a bunch of bucks the last several days.. many of which I have not seen before. They are coming out of the woodwork.
I have also been seeing a lot more roadkills the last few days. Be careful driving.
Got my freezer stocked up last week. A nice buck with the bow. Any KIO bowhunters out there?
Best regards, BC

Thursday my grandson's girlfriend had just crossed the bridge westbound and while travelling on 50 westbound got broadsided by a deer on the driver side of her vehicle. All the glass was shattered including windshield and the car was totalled. She didn't even see it. A witness stopped and informed all that she saw the deer and it was huge, swore it was about 200 pounds (?). Angie was released from AA Hospital around 8:30 p.m. that night. This happened in broad daylight.....

Thanks for telling me about that romance was in the air BC. I have been keeping my eyes open and my speed down since you mentioned it last week or so in your post. I had no clue there was a rut season. I have noticed their (deer) numbers and locations are a lot more prevalent. I side swiped a deer a few years back. I can't help to wonder if it was rut season. A friend just totaled their car on highway 97 last week. A buck was standing in the outside lane at 3:00 in the afternoon. Sequel, glad to hear no one was seriously injured.

The bucks are getting nuts!
I saw a really big buck last night about 8:30 PM standing in the middle of the street at the intersection of Route 213 and Kidwell Ave in Centreville!! I don't think he was looking for pizza.
Best regards, BC

Best regards, BC You should see all the young buck along 301 up by 302....I saw 4 all squished...one of them only had about 4 inches of antlers...sigh...Then the herd in front of the 4 H park...they were brave with me Tuesday night...I bet I slowed down to 2 miles an hour because they were just standing in the road...probably could have touched them had I opened my window up. Goofy deer.. What a strange place in Centreville to be standing...lol...maybe they were trying to get away from the Bear... Barb

That would explain the buck we saw yesterday leaving Love Point...he was alive and well...and missing part of his left antler

Hey Barb, I take it you hang out around Centreville a good bit.. Watch when you head south out of town in the farm field to the right just past the McDonalds.. There has been an almost pure white doe hanging out along that hedgerow. I saw her the other day playing doctor with a young buck in the field..
She is almost an albino. The only brown I could see on her was around her eyes. But for those who care about such trivia, she is classified as a piebald, not a true albino.
Best regards, BC

Got my freezer stocked up last week. A nice buck with the bow. Any KIO bowhunters out there? Congrats on your deer, BC. Yes, I am a bowhunter. That's all I hunt deer with now. It's quiet, doesn't annoy any neighbors and seems to be the least painful way for the deer to be harvested. I don't want to start a discussion on whether hunting is appropriate or not, but I do place great value on causing the least amount of trauma possible during the process. Cheers, Yak
