The big one at Arundel Mills Mall. It's not really local, but I love that store. Have you been to one? They have good quality stuff, especially the clothes, and it's not all hunting and fishing type apparel. More of the outdoorsy type. Good prices, good selection and have not found as of yet on any clothes "Made in China", I like that. Mostly Bangladesh, Honduras, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.....it's not made in the USA, but at least not China. If you haven't been to one, check it out. It's worth the trip.

If you haven't been to one, check it out. It's worth the trip. I'll second that! It's probably one of the few outdoor stores that even my wife likes. But for most my fishing gear, I still go to Oyster Bay Tackle in Ocean City or Fenwick Tackle. Sue Foster runs them and her employees at both locations are top notch. They know the sport and the equipment.

Bass Pro puts out a catalog in the mail if you cannot get to the store and I think they often have free shipping. I know Cabela's does too.

They might have good selections but they treat their employees like sh.it. My sister worked there for over a year in Missouri and was fired because she had to be out for chemo for her cancer. Not much better than Walmart, with slave labor wages for employees as well imports from third world countries. You wont catch me going there.

I take a trip to bass pro once or month or so, usually to head over to their hunting/guns department, but always just for accessories, never for guns or ammo. Their prices are way too high on both.

bchevy.."We all have choices" Thats no excuse to treat an ill employee like sh.it here in the USA. If it was your sister or wife or mother or daughter treated that way, Im sure youd feel differently.. She temporarily lost her health insurance after dealing with a masectomy because of them. According to you, companies have no consequences for their actions and can fire employees for being ill. As far as workers in Bangladesh, they dont have much choice but to take a job at slave wages since places like Bass Pro thrive on their underpaid exploitation in order to get comsumers like you great bargains and choices...I wouldnt want that on my conscience, Id rather support small businesses in the community....Bass Pro CEOs get enough profits for their third vacation homes without me supporting them.....Id also check with the people in Bangladesh first before assuming how many choices they have for jobs.

You seem to have a real problem with Capitalism and people (other than you) making money. There are usually at least three sides to every story. You feel your sister was fired simply because she was sick. Are you sure they really said to her, "We don't employ sick people. Goodbye?" Or is it possible that she was unable to work any kind of schedule and the company needed an employee who could show up for work?

So now you know "according to me"? cut it out already. ANYONE who works for Bass Pro Shops, or Wall Mart, CHOOSE TO WORK THERE. That's what I said and what I meant. Read into it what you want, it aint there. If enough employees don't, or didn't like it, THEY WOULD LEAVE, and things at those places would change. Period. Sweatshops in bangladesh, really not on my scope. Sorry. You don't know WHAT I buy, or WHERE I buy it, so keep on ASSuming whatever you'd like. Bass Pro CEOs don't miss you either. ACCORDING TO ME: you don't have half a clue for most of what you write. PS, what Falgar said too.

I also had a sister that worked there, when her husband changed jobs and they moved from West Plains, MO to Springfield, MO. She also missed a lot of time when she had some sort of gastric band surgery for weight loss, but they didn't fire her. Not sure why your sister's experience turned out so differently. As for the "slave labor wages" their pay was about average for the area. It may seem like slave labor wages compared to the wages paid in the BW metro area, but cost of living is a little less too. You can still buy a decent 3 bedroom home for under a $100K there.

Back on subject... some of the big outdoors store are awesome! If you get a chance, go to the Cabelas in Hamburg, PA. Or, go to the Bass Pro shops Outdoor World in Harrisburg, PA. Both stores are much bigger than the one at Arundel Mills.

...and if you ever get a chance to go to the one in Springfield, MO, take it.
The museum and display sections alone are worth it even if you don't plan on doing any shopping.

Not quite the same as Bass Pro, but the REI store in Seattle is definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the neighborhood.

If you headup north, I highly recommend the Kittery Trading Post on Route 1. Just over the state line from NH in Maine. Three Floors of outdoor goodness! ;D

I was impressed with how the people that worked in each area (dept.) were experienced in that activity and were most helpful. You name it, camping, climbing, canoing, winter clothing, cross country skiing..... It's just not some big massive store with tons of stuff, staffed with people who don't know anything and can't find anything even though they do have it in stock, like.....ummmmm.....Home Depot, to name one.
