N.J. is arming the Police with with walkie talkies that contain a video camera with sound. At this time the Officer has the option as to when the recording device is activated. The next step will have the recording device activated during his entire tour of duty. Everything recorded will be saved on a computer. Police will have the ability to video the inside of your home, and they will do it for your protection. Good idea, or bad idea?

Joe public has been walking around with video equipment for the last 30 years. Why not the cops?
Photography is nothing new in CSI. If my house is a crime scene, pics are part of the job. Video is better or at least enhances the process IMHO. If there's no crime at my house there's no need for the cop to be there. If the cop shows up rolling video, no big deal, it documents that I answered the door. That's all. (make sure you get my good side.) If he wants in, show me the warrant.
Got a warrant? Go right ahead and, by the way, let me have a copy while you're at it.
No warrant? Take a hike until you got one.

After a smidge more thought...
If I call the cops, I'll probably invite them in if it's needed to resolve whatever issue it is that caused me to call them in the first place. Even then, whatever business we have to discuss can be taken care of outside, if the issue is outside of the house. If I have a problem inside, I'll surely want them to document everything as best they possibly can, including the initial interview.

If the person knows they are being recorded it may not be a bad idea however, if a person knows they are on camera, they may not want to be on camera for fear a retribution from the bad guy. Also, the person may not feel comfortable making a statement on tape. I guess of lot of it depends on the type of case.
How goes the investigation by the new sheriff's best criminal investigator on your case Pete? Still waiting for those words of praise from you regarding sheriff Hoffman. Or maybe he was just rendering lip serviceto you? How many months has it been now?

Think I'll pass on the phone call. Just like to know if we all still have a shot at the $10,000 dollars!
