OK, as I get older I get more resistant to the outrageous fees being charged by Doctors, Hospitals, and Dentists... I am rebelling today.. wife has a dentist appointment next week. An extraction and front bridge work. A couple crowns.. One day in the chair, estimated cost $6,000.00!!! Does anybody besides me think this is off the charts? Have others in the area had some extensive dental work done and who/what do you recommend and relative costs.?? Like most people, my health insurance provider does not provide any useful coverage.. Best regards, BC

Bluecrabber -- I do know someone who, a couple years back, needed implants and the cost was totally outrageous. He ended up contacting the Dental School in (Baltimore??? not sure) and had the work done successfully by students who were watched closely by dentist teachers. Don't know if that's an option for you? I had another friend who had massive work done and paid $10,000 for new teeth and the teeth didn't even fit right -- he was having a horrible time. You're absolutely correct -- the costs are ridiculous.
EDIT -- I forgot to mention they did the work for half the cost.

BC - outrageous? Yes! her smile after.............priceless!
Actually, I was sent to a Endodontist by my regular dentist regarding root canal work. I had a half hour consultation costing $125, and am scheduled to go back Thursday for the root canal work costing $1550. That's $1675 for 1 1/2 hours of work -wish I made $1116/per hour.
Again, yes, $6000. sounds pretty extreme.
