I'm not sure if we are being unreasonable or not, but 3 times in the past year my fiancee and I have walked out of local restaurants because of what we consider bad (no) service by wait staff. 2 times from Annie's and now Adam's Ribs. Every time it has been exactly the same. We get seated right away, and there are amble empty tables we have time to look over the menu and decide on what we want to eat. 10 to 15 minutes later no one from the staff has bothered to even say hello. Neither of these places were very busy at the time. At Adam's we were sitting right next to the wait station, and plenty of the staff are just standing around doing nothing. We have eaten at Annie's a lot in the past, their food is good, but we are very hesitant to go back after our last 2 tries. Are we wrong? How long before anyone on the staff says "hello we will be right with you" is appropriate? Maybe we just expect too much for spending our hard earned money at an establishment. My fiancee waited tables years ago at Harris's, and the Crabdeck, and she was was twice as PO-ed as me.

Someone should have come over by then, even if it was to take a drink/appetizer order. The two times we ate at Adams we had good service, guess it depends on the person assigned to your table. Even the manager came around and asked how everything was.

we ate at adam's rib recently, and the service was ok--nothing great, but a nice, friendly waitress.
at annie's, a month or more ago, we waited and waited while people came and went and walked by...this was lunch. it was not exceptionally crowded or anything. we were invisible.
what bugs me a lot is when people who come in and are seated AFTER you get served BEFORE you!

what bugs me a lot is when people who come in and are seated AFTER you get served BEFORE you! That just happened to me at Cracker Barrel the other day.. Really annoying when people come in after you, get their food and are done eating and leaving before you can place an order. It was breakfast time and those other people were eating breakfast before we could get a cup of coffee! But, we all have to be honest.. responsibility is the restaurant management, but service is completely dependent on the luck of the draw with waiters and waitresses. Annies (or at least the bartender) has really annoyed me in the past. A couple months back I stopped for a bite during happy hour. Not very many people there. The bartender (female) ignored me for 10 or 15 minutes. I dug my feet in and said to myself I am staying until I get served. it was really hard to stay there, but I got my food and drink and left a $1 tip.. in change! (I usually tip 20%) It's the wait staff that kills restaurants. Best regards, BC

I eat at Annie's several times a month and have found that service on the restaurant side is always excellent. I always get Susan who is nothing shot of perfect, the bar side is another story. Sometime good sometimes fair. The food is another story, always 100%.I never had a bad meal @ Annie's. If you have a problem ask to speak with Mike the owner. He is always on top of things and has a ton of pride with Annie's.
Adams Rids, I have eaten there 4 times and again always had excellent service and food. They are still new and working out the Eastern Shore bugs. Give them another shot. I am sure you will be happy.

being invisible pisses me off also, especially if they aren't busy but just keep walking past our table HELLO

I've never waited tables so I can only guess what is going on, but my impression has always been that there is someone in particular assigned to my table and everyone else just assumes the job is being done. I certainly understand being pissed off at being invisible, I've definitely been there myself. But, it might not be fair to hold it against the establishment until you give them a chance to fix it.
Be upset with the server and ask to not be seated in their section again. Definitely leave a gratuity appropriate for the service you received. Let the manager/owner know what is going on. If you get bad service again, especially after mentioning it to the owner/manager, then they must not care about your business and your (and my) money would be more appreciated elsewhere.

Having put myself through college waiting tables and doing a bit of bar tending...I can confirm that you are correct falgar, dear They have a seating chart with numbers on it...those numbers correspond to a particular server. They don't necessarily assign the same numbers to the same server every day though. I completely agree that if you don't like the service...look at your server first - (I am NOT talking about food prepared poorly, etc - that is a KITCHEN issue) - and leave a gratuity that appropriately reflects your experience with your service. Again, emphasizing that it's NOT your servers fault if the steak/fish/chicken/tofu you ordered isn't prepared properly, the prices are too high, the table behind you has a troop of baboons for children, etc. Restaurants are a very visible place to observe the "it's not my job" mentality unfortunately. It's not the ONLY place it happens by any means, but it directly impacts us on a personal level when we go out to eat. Team work is an elusive animal for what ever reason. However, good SERVICE = good tip, and usually, for me, a discussion with the management. I know they get to hear EVERY single thing that is WRONG with their restaurant on a daily basis...I make sure to give them some positive input when ever possible. Don't get me wrong...if the service stinks...yea they get that input too Like I said in the beginning...been there, done that

We wallow in a sea of mediocrity and forget what truly makes a good business. Service and standing behind your product is the only thing that will distinguish a great business from the other masses. For most people and myself, you will almost always remember the incredibly (good or bad) service, that's what makes the difference.

My first experience with Adam's Ribs the other night was good as well. 7 people right after KIHS graduation, waited five minutes, sat down. Good food and good service.
