Lukes Grill has really great food but it gets so smokey in the restaurant area. It made no sense to put a wall up and leave a part open I hope they go to no smoking through the whole place. Steak and crabcakes are excellent!!

Come Feb '08 everywhere will be smokeless.... I'm sure that they saw that coming and didn't spend the money on a smoke filtration system. I like their food a lot too.

Yeah I spoke to one of the ladies there and she said that the owner just stopped smoking so she is happy about the no smoking law. Thank goodness! We went there anyway tonight and the steak and crabcake was great as usual

I agree the smoke is the only thing that makes Lukes hard to stand. The food is great and the employees are very nice.

Luke's is going smoke-free August 1st. Here's the info:
In consideration of overwhelming requests by much of our clientele and irrepairable ventilation issues, Luke's Grille will be a completley smoke free environment as of August 1, 2007. We are working diligently and quickly to make accomodations outside in the rear of the building for those that may wish to "step outside". We thank everyone for their understanding and support over the last few months and hope that those who frequent our establishement will continue to do so, and those who have not since we have opened will come out and show their support!

That's great news! I know the owner is a heavy smoker so I'm surprised, but I think someone mentioned that he's trying to quit. I'm sure that had a lot to do with the change.

I noticed! I didn't know where the thread went or why, but I really felt shafted last night and just wanted to vent.

Had lunch at lukes this past weekend for the second time, and I must say, I think they have about the best burger in the area. The fries are excellent, too.

I've eaten at Luke's several times over the past few weeks and the crowd has been very light. I have loved this place since it opened and I hope that anyone reading this will give it a try. It is clean, the service is good, and the food is excellent. Every time I go there, I make a point of trying something new from the menu and it is always fantastic. I so very much want to see this place prosper. Give it a try...you'll like it!

we went to luke's for the first time tonight, for supper. very good burgers and fries--no room for dessert (and they don't have chocolate!). the waitress was a sweetie, but the food was a long time coming. at the time we were there, it was pretty crowded, but people already had been served. dh quipped that it was a good thing we hadn't ordered the burgers well done!
next time we go we'll try something different. recommendations?

hubby and i have been there a few times recently and have had wonderful food. it has not been all that busy, either, which i hope is not a sign of anything. just recommended it to a friend. the ribs were falling off the bone, and yummy, fish has been good, burgers good, and i don't remember what else, but it's all been good. service still kinda iffy at times, though.

Luke's has really good food (Cajun Chicken Pasta, the Ribs, and Burgers are my fav's) and they now have my favorite beer on tap - "Ressurection Ale" from Brewers Art in Baltimore.
Give them a try and be sure to print out the coupons for either "$5 off $25 or more" or "Buy 1 entree and get the second for half off" on the Kent Island Online main page.

Rich - I agree. We just took the family, including grandparents, after my sons b-day party. There was another table twice as big as our party, with kids too. The wait staff was doing a great job keeping up with all of the requests and the food was great as usual. We had a variety from seafood, pasta, salads and burgers. No complaints from us!! We will be back

Great CN! I haven't been in there in a while - I have to stop in too - I think tomorrow there is a Guda Burger with my name on it...!
Also, Rob Fahey plays there a lot - well worth catching him play. Friday May 23rd is the next time that he's there - Go!

Hubby, daughter and I were in tonight. Very good food and good service. This is our second trip and I have to say I really like Lukes. Hubby had the crabcake sandwich. I had the chicken strips.
We used our half off 2nd entree coupon and got out under 40 bucks with tip....not bad.
And, the good news, we were not alone! There was a party of 6, a party of 8 and party of 4. Hope that's a sign they are doing well!

Normally we love Luke's , but were sorely disappointed this evening. I love spinach dip with chips and saw that it was "new" on the menu. So I thought I would give it a try. the waitress brought out spinach dip with bread and told us the menu was old, since April. I asked her if she could check with the kitchen to see if they had tortilla chips. They did not. I don't mean to come down on them, but if the menu states one thing and the kitchen has another, the customer should be informed about the substitution. They took it back and my husband suggested that he would go to R's to get some chips, they refused that too. Then the waitress gave us our check before we were finished. After she had an attitude with us. I rate this a 2 star restaurant tonight.

Did you know?
Last night we had a wonderful evening with a lovely couple, fyi, we are all members of KIO, however I would rather not disclose my name here. We treated this couple for dinner and drinks for a favor that they had done for us. And had a wonderful time!
Our check was $162.40, and the other couple picked up the tip. In the "tip" section it was clearly stated cash tip. We left the 20% average tip. I was checking on our online banking this evening and as it turns out, Lukes charges and additional 20% to the debit card. Just in case, and it is debited out of our checking.
We have the $ in our account, but with customer service like that, we respectfully will not go back.
I just thought that everyone should be aware of their bad business practices!

Not sure I understand. On the bottom line you wrote the number $162.40 then signed your name but your account was debited something like $195? If that is the case, then when you get your statement from the bank, dispute it. I would not have written "Cash tip" anywhere on the receipt, a simple "0" or line through the tip section is very effective. Given the timing you mention it is quite possible Luke's did nothing out of the ordinary. Nearly every business (could be EVERY business) authorizes the card for some amount of money. At gas stations it can be as little as $1. At Red Eyes I believe it is $100. This is not a charge against your account, it is a hold against your account. It protects the business by assuring them that you have sufficient balance on the account and it protects the bank by preventing you from charging your last $100 several times over. You, the customer, are protected by the copy of the receipt you have in your hand and the copy the business has to produce if you dispute the charge. It will be a few days before the actual charge hits your account, money is deducted, and the hold is released. This is the way things work with credit cards and I imagine debit cards are handled similarly. Bottom line: don't be too quick to blame Luke's for what is a common practice. I'm surprised you haven't noticed this before. Ask your bank today whether I could be correct or wait until you receive your monthly statement and see what the actual charge looks like. And no, I have no connection to Luke's.

Falgar25 is correct, I've had it happen to me several times, usually with restaurants. It will clear within a few days, but doesn't hurt to check with your bank.

And no, I have no connection to Luke's. We had a similar experience at Luke's a couple of months ago. We paid our bill with a credit card but left a cash tip, about 20%, The next day my wife was checking our account on-line and saw the amount "pending" was greater than we had signed for(by about 20%). She called the manager you said she would look in to it. The manager called back (left a message on our machine) and stated she had corrected the problem. The pending charge was changed to the correct amount. Accident? coincidence?maybe, but we have been back twice since then and pay in cash only.
