Without outright saying it, you might want to talk to some people around the area, specifically people that are working in area bars / restaurants, etc., before eating there again. I've found that bartenders and servers have worked at or know people who've worked at every place around here. There's definitely some things that will make you cringe about H'ways. It's too bad because the few times that I ate there it was pretty good. I asked about the place and pretty much across the board the response that I got was "locals don't go there" and then the reasons.
For the same view and a good place all in all, try Kentmorr a little further down 8. It's not gourmet or anything, but it's good food and safe.

Have heard the same stories and won't go there myself. Also, won't go there on general principles - search this forum for more info.

Will someone spill the gossip on Hemmingway's please?

Firstly Biana and Steve Arentz are a class act, in addition to the bartenders and servers there as well.
Hockey boy and I go there often. Simply because it is not a sports bar with many TV's and alot of noise. Simply said, it is a beautiful place with CLASS for the over 40 year olds, who want to have a conversation with great service, great food, and visiting with the LOCALS there that also do not enjoy a not noisy place.
Try Bennet's crabcakes, they are the BEST ! We had our wedding dinner there and everyone RAVED about the food and exquisite service. Even the 20 year old children that we have.
So what...the Marina wants it back and Biana and Steve do a wonderful job for having an elegant, quiet comfortable and welcoming restaurant with employees who are educated.

Never been in there either, at least to some extent because of the things that I have heard. Though I have met the owner in the past at a party, and all I can say there is that he's a character! LOL! Didn't agree with much that he had to say, but he was certainly entertaining and seemed like an OK guy. There is no doubt that the view from the place has to be spectacular, but the lack of support for the establishment, very well known by the locals, suggests that something isn't right, fairly or unfairly.

I haven't heard anything but I would like to.........are we talking quality of the food or how they treat the staff, what is it?

Well then, they hold onto their staff as long as they are honest and professional. Regarding what one hears can also be rumor. God knows this little island loves to gossip and condem without trying out something or some place. They have wonderful food, professional staff, locals over 40 and the most exquisite sunsets. And is NOT a sports bar with tv's and LOUD music. Mostly, the owner Biana is very involved in so many charities on the island....so you snub your noses up to a LADY whom does so many good things for locals? Simply said, I don't get it....

We've been there, twice, granted it's been a while, a long while, but for reasons. We felt very much out of place, the portions were seriously lacking while the prices were high.
I'll repeat, it's been a long time since we were in there, not long enough for me.

The place is scary dirty. I used to work there and I know. Ditto! My wife worked there for a short term. Scary dirty, re-served rolls, and dirty hands type of establishment. She couldn't work in those conditions. On the other hand, spectacular views, gorgeous sunsets, and the tropical bar still makes me come back (not to eat, of course) We stop in by boat for a drink or two on the way back to the docks.

Nasty dirty I'd say. Hop over the bridge to the melting pot if you want clean, pricey, classy.

Agreed on Hemminigways. I worked with a woman who waited tables there a bunch of years ago and she told me a bunch of examples that has kept me away. As far as the Melting Pot goes, I don't understand paying a bunch of money to sit down and cook your own food I call that eating at home and I can do that for less.

Yes I agree with you on paying to cook your own food. But I was letting the ones who are trying to pay top dollar for a meal and have a classy place to go, to go there. Seems like some people want to act like there "high class" and need that "classy" restraunt to go to. NOt me folks! You can feed me just about anything and it dosen't need to come from some fancy place.

If the food matches the price, I'm OK with it. We went to "Rockfish" in Annapolis last week (the old "Clipper" in Eastport) which is expensive, but the food was worth it. Not someplace that I would go to all of the time (price), but for birthdays and that sort of thing, it is great. I'm also good with places like the Washington Street Pub in Easton. Cheap eats that taste good. Once I hear that a place is unclean from a reliable source, I'm done with it though.
